I've often wondered. What qualifies a post to make the trending topics list? There's obviously some sort of algorithm but some topics on there haven't received a new post in a number of days.

It's a function of its velocity - how many replies does a topic receive on a daily average over the last week. This is ordered by replies average and we select the top 12 (used to be eight).

I hate change normally but I do see logic in the way it is now - muscle memory needs retraining though :)

Yes and no. Removed blogs. Made forums more visible - wider than before.

On the topic of homepage changes, maybe update the "We have just released ID verification" text; it's been about a year at this point so "just" is beginning to push it!
