Reporting a comment that don't belong where they are is so different than reporting bullying you folks have no idea.

If you see any indication of bullying that is not actually just someone with an opinion you disagree with, then report as moderators do take swift action.

This thread is a great example of the problem in itself, it has degenerated into belittling jokes and given the pattern of +1s, the echo chamber that so many fear, already exists. I'm not a precious snowflake, but I know bullying when I see it. It is starting to feel more like the stuff.co.nz comments section lately round here.

The boorish posts I find very tiresome. I guess that's one way to defend a point, but would be nice for some to learn to discuss, rather than come back all guns blazing with putdowns and a string of adjectives when someone disagrees. Or maybe they cannot handle opposition?

There is a difference between disagreeing with someone and bullying them. Some may see disagreement as bullying, and to some extent it will always be a matter of definition. But if you really feel some in a thread are going too far, but a mod doesn't agree with you and take action, there remains always the option to just disengage and unsubscribe from the thread in question. You don't have to just sit there and take it if you don't like it.

There is a clear difference between disagreement and bullying. very clear. As to what defines bullying here, I have no idea. Given how much I see here at times, I assume thats not billing. Its just boorish.

Yes, we have a choice. Disengage, unsubscribe, or ignore the posts as if they did not exist. The latter is the easiest.

Can we please put this idea to bed finally? I feel it adds nothing useful to GZ. There are many more useful developments that effort could be put to instead. If you generally don't like the comments of certain individuals then either skip past them or avoid the threads they post in. You don't need fancy functionality to do this. We are all adults.

IMDB had this function (back when they still had message boards). You could select to ignore any given poster. Mind you, their boards were totally un-moderated and full of trolls.

Its a good example of a thread that most level headed people will simply ignore.

There were a good number of Pro-Trump people contributing initially. That seemed to tail off in line with Trump's decreasing approval ratings.

More in line with getting bored with the often illogical rabid anti-Trump sentiment, perhaps.

People's views about things like that don't change much IME. It somewhat inevitably becomes trench warfare because it's a fairly binary issue.

Bullying - I've always interpreted as behaviour that is designed to intimidate and injure (physically or mentally) someone else.

That seems to be the definition that is used in an employment context.

If that definition is appropriate then sustained personal attacks would qualify, (but dis-agreeing with someone however stubbornly) would not.

Just like the terms 'racist' and 'chauvinist', 'bullying' is so inaccurately overused, mostly in an attempt to stifle expression of viewpoints by others, that it's almost ceased to have any real meaning.

I see bullying as doing just that. You're saying that the people who get quoted by others as bullies, are stifling the bullies expression?

You either participate in a discussion, where some agree, with their points and others disagree, with their points. Easy. Its not a points scoring exercise, or a need to be right. Well, not for most. For those that it is a need to be right, it can get nasty. From calling a post BS, saying whoever thinks that is a stupid fool etc. Ive seen many variations. Thats where a discussion heads south, turning into a Im right, shudup environment. Its quite easy to say we agree to disagree. Its also easy to putdown and label.

It's like the overuse of the word "terrifying" in modern media. Clickbait headlines like these (actual ones from today's Google News) make the word completely meaningless by trying to get people to click through articles that are anything but tales that aren't "terrifying" at all:

"Shocking dashcam video shows terrifying near miss on road"
"WATCH: This escape artist's trick is terrifying"
"Trump's ignorance of the auto industry is terrifying"
"Two Moms Share Terrifying Stories About the Dangers of Fidget spinners"

I can fully see that. I just meant that I have never seen anyone say there is too much bullying here, the B word. There have been off course some stating don't be an arse etc based on a bully type post
