I have to say the design is a lot better than the old one, good stuff!

Keen to see the complete, unified design soon.

The line through the bar at the top with "welcome back *********" and so on can be moved a little bit up above the bottom lot of text as it is imposing on them.

ps would post a photo but dont know how. PM me if you can tell me

Looks great!

One thing, I think the Page Number bar needs to be above the quick reply bar. I come to the end of a page and then mistakenly think that there is no more pages in the Thread.

I agree or put one at the top and one above the quick reply box

another thing.

I belive geekzone is forum/board in the first place and then news/blogs/reviews/whatever website. And now on the main page the first things you see are everything else but forum topics where the most ideas/thoughts are shared... Forum updates are lost in the amount of the text on the main page...

it looks better, but usability, from my point of view, got worse :(

Firstly, I'm in two minds about the gradient. I think this could be improved, right now I think it's a bit flat and dull. The front page has had some very good improvements, however, I'd suggest larger left and right margins in the news columns, even as little as 30px. Space can make all the difference with text-heavy pages.
The large Google Ad block at the top (only noticed because I turned adblock off temporarily) isn't pleasant. How about integrating the ad colour scheme to match the site css?
Hth.

Interesting because we actually removed stuff from the old layout (Software is no longer there), and reduced the number of items in other places.

What about in terms of speed rendering the frontpage? Note that we are not using any table there now.

That's counting network traffic? I am on TelstraClear and it loads the frontpage in less than two seconds.

I like the idea of the design but I feel that my eyes don't have any area to focus on specifically. I think it is either because the google advert is to high up in the news items column and/or the blog posts have headings that are larger than the news ones (except the first news post).

Like I said, I like the idea of it, I just feel the spacing/font sizes need to be tweaked so that my eyes have somewhere to focus on.
