Overall, this is a really great virtual community. I wouldn't be paying my measly twenty five credits a year if I didn't get something out of it and feel it was worth supporting.

Of course there is a wide range of opinions and views here. Anything too far out of line is usually very quickly dealt to, which is good.

Thanks to all the mods and our BDFL for keeping it that way.

I agree

This thread has I feel opinionated a bit too much on the negatives. They are there, but I feel the vast majority of us do show a lot of respect.

Most of us know each other by only our words.

Cheers to all

I must admit that I avoid saying things that I would know to set off some of the ranters in threads where they have gone totally on a tangent about climate change or govt policies they disagree with because of their personal biases.

Also, blocking would make for very confusing reading for people that would have no idea what was going on in a thread because replies were to things that are miles away in the thread if there were 2 blocked people ranting to each other and I had no visibility of it so I assumed that my post was going directly below the one I was answering so no need to quote, when in actual fact to others reading there was a whole lot of crap inbetween them.

Yep. Say you blocked me. And say I said something normal, and another replied with a normal post. It would make no sense. Although MF said he cant block quotes, but some post as a reply and don't quote.

I'd rather read an arrogant rant, have a smile, and act as though it doesn't exist should I reply in that thread.

I had users send me PM asking to having their accounts closed because they see "too much bullying in the off topic discussions" - as if the people participating didn't have an option to ignore the topics, or as if people were being mean to the others by showing how their posts/ideas were wrong or misguided.

OMG! Do you just shrug and close accounts of people who are that precious ,or do you firstly point out that they could ignore said topics?

I close the accounts.

That's what I'd class as a WIN-WIN.

IMO, blocking is a silly idea.  We argue - disagree, but also agree.  I'm not fond of the idea of a where individuals only share opinion with those who share the same opinion. There doesn't seem to be any point discussing anything at all in that case, just sit back in your comfy chair, slide your slippers on, and nod your head along with everyone else.

I wrote this 3 years ago.. not sure if it still works. It kills quotes too, but it kills the entire quote if the users username appears.

It won't work anymore as we changed to use DIV instead of TABLE this week...

Although I know some people who were rude to me on here and Twitter because of that but I pretty much doubt he will say thanks or apologise...

In that case, let me say thanks! smile

(Not - I hope - that I was the one being rude!It was just a thing that I found frustrating and mentioned. A bit. Few times. A lot.)

No problem. Annoyed me too. But you were not rude, as in being unpolished and calling names for that kind of problem. Seriously.

Oh good.

How silly to resort to name calling - especially over a technical issue.

Again - thanks for fixing it. Being just about IT illiterate (at least compared to many of you) I never understood much about what caused it, but I am glad it's gone!
