I guess the "In your face" ads at the top of every page are designed to encourage you to buy Ad free..

No, they are not. But you can guess whatever you want. People have no idea how much it costs to run a website this large.

Feel free to send freitasm a sizeable cheque every month to cover the site's monthly bandwidth and hosting bills.  We can then remove the ads.

richms: Dont like the serifed font that is coming up for the list of topics, but I dont like serifs onscreen in general.

I like a change that is a small improvement and doesn't jat.

But I agree about the serif fonts which are generally better suited for reading dense text at smaller sizes.

Usually those that put serifs onscreen are using some form of font smoothing which makes them more tollerable. I cant stand font smoothing so have it turned off which I think is why it makes the serifs so big that they touch other letters.

Niel: Nice to see the ads cleaned up (but I block them anyway ;-).

It's your personal option, of course. But shall I just go and close the site, since I have to pay from my pocket for people to use it then?

With any savvy geek audience you can expect a high % of ad blocking and a low % of people every clicking on ads even if they are not blocking them.

Have you seen this presentation?

Something to think about, I'm sure the principles could be applied to a geekzone somehow in addition to your current ads or subscription business model.

Just because we have a high % of geek users, it does not mean they do not have to show their appreciation. I am not trying to play a guilt card, but just because you know how to circumvent a sites form of revenue, and still get all of the paid features, does not mean you should.
Although, we have a high % of geek users on the forums, we also have a lot of people who are one time visitors, or sign up and never post. A lot of them are probably not geek users, but are people who are looking here for help based on others advice and experiences.

I like the speed improvement, content displayed before all the add have loaded, heaps better than before. The update = improvement. Nice one.

Its at the far end of the button row.. surely you will get used to going to the other end? Have not found it a problem myself.
