BlueToothKiwi: Actually this morning the home page is running a bit slow - It loads the header.. then pauses for 5 seconds (with the status bar saying waiting for scoop.co.nz) and then it loads the rest. Still acceptable.

Good to know. There are some ads running out of their server, so I have removed it from our rotation for the moment, until they sort their side.

New redesign loads pretty quick, and that's only on a 512Kb/s connection @ work.

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Still ends up with the left side ad sitting in the center of the page for a few seconds while it sorts out loading the right colum of the forums.

So we need to fix how the site loads up? You are kidding?

It looks really cheaply made IMHO, just all the headlines dumped on the frontpage.

What page is this? Remember only the frontpage is optimised at the moment. Forums are not done yet.

And what you suggest instead? Something like this?

ROFL! That website is brilliant! I love the use of highlighting and the use of several different sized fonts in a sentence.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

LOL

Brilliant - It reminded me of my first ever web page I developed in 1994 using Notepad. It was so painful - you type the HTML tags, then save it .. and then use this Browser called Mosaic to see what it looked like!

Amazing how far Web development have come in 15 years !

Your notion of 'far' clearly differs from the creator's one on the site Mauricio mentioned.

Design is subjective and whenever you change something a % of people will always complain. It's pretty fair to say a lot of people hate change even if the change is seemingly sensible.

Hello,

First off and congrats as I know it must have been a big move to go from something comfortable that has served us well to a bold new look.

Been looking at the front for the last few days, and its a big step up from the look that has served us well for many years even the colour was truly yours it stood out and the add on to the footer or was it a header you could see that a new look was on the way.

The proposed new look is fresh and in to me looks if you are going for a magazine / news site layout if I compare to say templates for Joomla or Wordpress thou I know your theme is custom made.

Back to the point I feel its tad to much on the front page having as much displayed and is a similar look to the NZ Herald and they have a more pronounced outline say around the content.  (That is not a insult just refering to a news style layout)  Just you don't know what to focus on as I am swamped with information.

If this is the look and feel you are aiming for well done.  I think it does work and to fit all the content on the front page is a job well done.

Perhaps it could be a little more simplified as I feel a little bit overwhelmed what to look at first with more emphasis perhaps on the social content like the forums, twitter and member blogs more pronounced and reviews, member blogs and the latest news in a more defined layout maybe same size block.

The goggle add in the header needs the same background colour as the header,
Mind you I'm looking at the site on a netbook with a 10 inch screen.

Overall its a smart, fresh new look for Geekzone and does give a more premium template look again well done and I can see some minor tweaks in layout or colour is all that is needed not a new rethink on the design.

Not for me. A few minutes to ajust to the new font on the fourms and the sudden darkness of the site. Looks great!
