I was in a forum and I had the pointer over a link and could not see alt or title text to the link to forum topic.

I have been playing with ALT text and like how it adds a new level to the gui (graphic user environment) and that blind people use it to make navigation a present surf.

There seems to be a blind spot on the geekzone presently.

Thanks :)

Now I know nothing about programming....

But whenever I insert and link, I have the option to insert a title. It is an option and not a requirement, so if people do not do it, then you will not hear it.

The same applies for images aswell, it is an option.

Here are some example, first two are links to the geekzone home page, the second are a copy of your avatar.

EDIT: BTW this is done with the HTML editor turned on

Yeah, so for example the link below is copied from the top of the forum message

Topic # 18588 posted on 15-JAN-2008 15:59

When I put my pointer over topic, I get nothing. I was hoping to see the Topic Subject in the Alt text.
That's the default setting for most links on Geekzone.

hidden-accessibility-message-using-css has a example of the class="accessibility"> tag

Hello, I think I have noticed some changes. In the forums, they alt text is the name of the subject of the post. Nice One!

I noticed that html is being said too. Because my subject has a long name, it's truncated into two lines. This is done with a
which is the code tis embedded into the middle of the ie subject sub

I'm a big advocate of making web sites easy for blind or otherwise disabled people. HTML has those provisions in there for a reason and its always good to see big website webmasters taking notice.

If your developing a website, ALT tags on images are a requirement for XHTML complaince. Same does not apply to links however

This brings up another thing. Geekzone doesn't have a set DOCTYPE.

Perhaps if/when Mauricio migrates to .NET there will be a doctype

Being that GZ is largely a forum, I think you would have major issues trying to get it to validate XHTML tho anyway, so the doctype may end up at HTML 4.01 Transitional (Which I think is the default when no doctype is set anyway).
