Hi all,

I'm proposing a Wheaton level based on your last 6 or 12 month history of Wheaton's Law violations or near misses.

A small vert bar displaying a level (Green/orange/red)... that good behaviour over time will improve as Dlck points drop off.

Just a random thought I had for when reading someones post to get a guage on what that person is generally like in the forum?

🤪

I'd have thought +1's are a good indication of that.  E.G. if you've got a high number of posts but a low number of +1's then you're not doing so well in the view of your peers on the forum.

Seems like it could be quite subjective and likely to prompt many disagreements and arguments.

PS: I'm not sure +1s are the greatest indication though - they're more of an indication that you say lots of things a decent subsection of the community agrees with. e.g calling someone a complete and utter moron for complaining they're not getting "advertised speed" on a gig connection when testing over wifi is likely to garner a few +1s but also a slightly dick move... ;-)

Also some people can be incredibly helpful but also bust a few snarky comments out as well... I guess because the answer may be obvious to them...

I'm only 20% serious about this... In this PC world it's not really something that's ideal.

It's a fair amount of moderation overhead to make a system like that work.  Unless @freitasm can automate something.  It would mean we as mods would have to go into each person's account and make some adjustment every time someone gets pulled up on something.

True true. And then you may have to remove a Wheaton point and add a Dlck move point to the other person lol. I see a lot of admin :)

Sounds like a great opportunity for big data analytics/AI and the use of sentiment analysis of posts for something like positive/negative/neutral and tallying up to form a score/measure per member.

Perhaps moderators could have a +1/-1 button similar to the current +1 button which increments or decrements said Wheaton Level?

But I'd still argue it would be quite subjective and perhaps more of a useful private tool for mods than something that should be publicly visible...   At which point one wonders if it's even that useful because I'm sure the mods already have a fair idea of who the "troublemakers" are.

I think this would be as helpful as introducing a "-1" feature, which has been mentioned and discussed previously, and knocked back for good reason.

If there is anyone that would be classified as a dick, rest assured the person wouldn't last long.

OK - I know we have covered this before but I'm a casual Star Trek fan, not a true Trekkie...what's a Wheaton Level, when it's not on the Enterprise?
