At the moment it`s some movie ad I think, some RocknRolla crap. This is absolutely ridiculous. It`s in the way, now it doesn`t even have a `CLOSE` button in the corner, or maybe it`s just invisible on purpose. Are u guys actively trying to keep people away from this site?

Wow, that is bad.  Can't even see the button to reply to the post!

Edit:  And now it's almost covering my post.

I see the advert but it sits fine for me at the bottom of the screen (Firefox 3, IE 6, Chrome 0.3).  What browser/OS are you using?

The internet has ads?  I guess you haven't discovered the beauty of Firefox addons :)

If you become a subscriber you can turn the ads off.

attilathegorilla, this must be one of the less helpful posts I've ever seen for this site in a while. If you had just posted something like "hey guys there's a new ad running that is over the text on the forums and content pages, can you remove it please" then it would be a completely thing.

Of course we run ads - hosting and bandwidth alone for Geekzone cost me over $1200 a month. And people don't buy subscriptions (which allows you to see Geekzone ad free, superfast), so we have to make money for the business somehow.

Now, implying that we purposefully have an ad without a close button and over the text is just insane. You should know by now we are not that kind of site.

It's obviously some error on the agency part - the ad should just sit nicely on the bottom of the page like all other ads. So I've paused the campaign and notified the agency that it won't be delivered until they have it fixed.

Thanks for letting us know.

Just a note regarding subscriptions...

Obviously, at the moment, I am not a subscriber (well, yet. I will be changing that, to help support the site). The "Off-Topic (subscribers)" subforum, and the fact that some people have a Subscriber tag under their username, is the only signs that I have seen of a subscriber function on the site. The wording on the "Off-Topic (Subscribers)" subforum says "This is a private off topic forum for subscribers only. Subscriptions services will be introduced soon.", which led me to believe that subscribing was not yet available, otherwise I would have subscribed a considerable time ago!

So, if I had these ideas, how many others did to? How much is the site missing out on?

Good point - there was "Subscribe" link in the footer of all pages. It's back there now.

It`s still a bit out of sight, there should be a link on the site header I think, there`s plenty of room next to `contact` for example. More likely people see it.

Yes, what I was referring to though, was for us non-subscribers, there were (and at the moment, still are) only a few very minor clues that there is a subscriber function at all. The "Off-Topic (Subscribers)" sub-forum's text indicates that subscription services "will be introduced soon", indicating that it is not currently available (which it is, and which when I get paid tomorrow...).

Any updates on this freitasm? I've only just noticed this ad popping up at the bottom of the page now, its blocking the last post of every page. FF 3.0.3/Chrome. Would love to go Subscriber but not an finanical option at the moment. Not a complaint, just a query.

Thanks

Is this on FF or Chrome? I've configured Google Ad Manager to not deliver these ads on Firefox.
