Just a heads up that we are now automatically inserting URLs tags for any web address entered in the quick reply box, without the need of anything else to be done.

You still need to use te rich text editor LINK button if using the full editor though.

I always see LOTS of URLs in replies and people can't be bothered using the full rich text editor to put in the proper tags, so I thought it would be easier to just add them ourselves.

Very nice! That'll be so handy!

Make sure it hyperlinked the whole URL (e.g. whitespace to whitespace); I have seen some implementation that stopped the hyperlink at , . ; - et al.

Yay a sensible and awesome improvement, goodstuff.  I remember commenting on the need for auto linking a few times in the past.

Now, do you want know the next item on my wishlist of sensible & awesome improvements to the Geekzone forums?

I don't really like it as it does break the ability to have the text in a link. ie

To get to The Geekzone style links doesn't work.

Is there a way to check that the link usage is valid before blindly changing every http: into a new link?

Use the full text editor then.

But doesn't that defeat the point of have a quick reply area, which is cool and one of the better upgrades? The full editor is slow and not very user friendly.

The code to do the checking is not that complex and would make the site look smarter and not give me flashbacks to the 90's. IMHO

I also don't like how is stortens the url, so you can't see where it's referencing and there is not alt text on links for the blind users.  Just my 2c to make it a better users experience.

And if I use the editor to fix posts, upon click update, I get sent to the forums root and not back to the thread I was writing about,  which is not a very nice user experience.

2010 - I'm hoping to see more web2.0 and less trips back to the 90's

Still I like the site even though.
