Hi

I have 2 devices. One is a S999 smartwatch thats 4g and say its

voLTE enabled. It seems to be from Phone info for #4636#

and a Sony Xperia XZ3 which some online say have theirs working

again the photo info says its on.. and Pixel IMS also except

IMS not registered.

I tried twice to get support.. Phone said they dont have the tools

or access and web chat on app just locked up after someone saying

you can do it settings? so I wondering how clued up support

really is?

Im not sickness (jobless) and will take me 6 months to even buy

a new phone like a google pixel 8 phone

I tested both cards and both worked in 4g and 5g

with voLTE although the cards says Vodafone NZ

it says one NZ in the hidden phone settings

Cheers Paul

CHCH nz

ps 3g finally cut in March now only sms and net work

No. If the devices aren't registering, then it is the fault of the devices not the network.

One NZ do not operate a whitelist.

I used these same devices on vodafone for many years

and been with them for 20 years.

so I can expect my devices to be approved over profits

like suddenly Chinese phones are dangerous?

clearly they are not security risks.

I dont really need calls though.. but hosp and doctors

do like to call me.

I heard spark support have approved phones on their

network. Do I switch carriers if they do it?

As previously mentioned One NZ don't run a whitelist. It's not a matter of "approving."

If it works, great, if it doesn't well that's a problem.

You can try Spark or 2degrees but the same risk exists. If it's not on their supported list (they do test devices in a variety of situations) then it may or may not work.

Just buy a supported device. Save yourself the headache. Cheap android jobbies exist from carriers from about the $300 and below range.

IM below poverty line I cant afford to keep spending of tech

and my s999 WATCH PHONE STILL is only 1 year old

My IMEI of devices is being blocked why does it day unregistered

otherwise.

It works with SMS text messages only and internet

which I thought was higher risk then voice calls for security

As per this discussion here and theres others out there too just one

https://zentalk.asus.com/t5/rog-phone-7/ims-volte-registration-status/td-p/497471

and I have tried all the hacks but I know the watch

is 4g calling in other countries

Hi! I also had trouble with IMS not registering on one network. It seems many carriers do not whitelist the ASUS phones for VoLTE, even if the phone supports it.

From what I learned, the best way is to contact the carrier and ask them to add your phone’s IMEI to their VoLTE list. Some people said it worked after a few days, but others said their carrier refused.

I did not find a real way to override the settings without root. The dial code helps a little, like you said, but it does not fix it fully and you must do it again after reboot.

So mostly, it depends on the carrier. If they support ASUS phones, IMS works. If not, calls may fail. I hope carriers make better support for this phone soon.

I Hope this will helps!

Theres no loyalty from a supplier to customer. So being with them 20 years means nothing.

Expecting them to approve your devices just because youre a customer ? Hehe can imagine the chaos allowing all these random devices appearing and wanting support.......

VoLTE provisioned = likely disabled or not active

I checked with AI just to see

Your IMEI is probably NOT being actively blocked by One NZ. One NZ (and most NZ carriers) do not run a strict "approved IMEI whitelist" like Telstra in Australia does. They have a list of tested/approved devices, but they don't usually hard-block imported phones by IMEI. If your IMEI was truly blocked, you would likely see no service at all or constant registration issues even for data. What’s Actually HappeningThe problem is almost certainly firmware + provisioning mismatch:

  • Your phone is the Global LC R8C variant not the UK firmware (not officially sold/tested in NZ).
  • One NZ’s IMS servers expect certain carrier profiles and provisioning flags that your current firmware doesn’t fully provide.
  • That’s why the friends S21 (which has proper NZ-friendly firmware) can make VoLTE calls (even if imperfect), but your XZ3 cannot register IMS properly.
This is extremely common with imported Sony phones on One NZ after the 3G shutdown.Evidence from NZ CommunityFrom Geekzone and other forums, people with the same or similar H8416 / R8C builds report the same thing: support says “not on our list”, but it’s rarely a hard IMEI block — it’s a firmware compatibility issue.

Yes, the carrier (One NZ) can fix a provisioning mismatch on their end, but success is not guaranteed for unsupported imported phones like your XZ3 H8416.How One NZ Can Fix ProvisioningThey have tools on their side to manually:

  • Enable VoLTE / IMS for your specific IMSI (the SIM card identifier)
  • Link your IMEI to their VoLTE system (even if the phone is not officially on their approved list)
  • Push updated carrier profiles to your SIM
This is called manual provisioning.

last resort:

Alternatives use wifi hotspot and other apps like Jitsi meet, MSN to do calls over

internet data.

Hi Paul,

It sounds like you’re dealing with a really frustrating situation, and I’m sorry you’re having to go through that.

Just a quick reminder that this isn’t an official support channel for OneNZ.
Some very kind members here have industry experience and can offer helpful advice from time to time, but I’m not one of them and I don’t work for OneNZ.

If members here have indicated that OneNZ doesn’t use a whitelist, and official OneNZ support hasn’t been able to resolve things for you, then you’re really left with a couple of options:

  • try another provider, or
  • look at purchasing a device that’s confirmed to be compatible.

yeh Im saving for a decent phone as these devices never last

and maybe a new watch after that.. my S999 has simcard

dont need to connect to a phone in pocket which I love

and has a big 2.88 screen.

it take 6 months if no other costs zap savings like

recent $2500 teeth work,.

anyhow I tested all on whatsapp since most have it

on phones but not sure how it go outside family friends

like the doctors or hosp.

but at mo causal is like 50 cent for 1 min on app which

is acceptable or buy a add-on I see $5 a month for whatapps

add-on or $20 for 1gb or $3 unlimited for 1 day

For these non-VoLTE capable phones it's a shame Skype no longer exists to port your number to.

I had a look at 2talk's Data Go 15GB endless data plan for $17.25/month (uses 2degrees network) but as it is a data-only SIM so presumably doesn't have a number attached to it so it can receive calls or SMS on. Does anyone know whether 2talk Voice Cloud PBX GO FREE / casual rates handles SMS?

When you do obtain a new device, make sure its a "local" model or you'll end up in the same boat. All these "cheap" Samsung S21/22/23 phones on TradeMe are sourced from o/seas and don't have full band support here.

Years ago when VoLTE first came out here, most if not all providers needed to have it provisioned before it would be available to devices, among other reasons that allowed the network to ensure that they didnt push out an change to devices that might have issues with 111 calls etc.

Now that 3G is being shut off, that's no longer a factor and ims provisioning would be default. There is always possibility something has gone wrong, but proactive identification of issues with VoLTE/IMS would catch that sort of thing.
