Anyone noticed that all of a sudden the VF offerings have disappeared off the DSE site and if you go into the stores all the VF phones are either out of stock or clearance, has something happened that's led to VF pulling out of DSE?

I noticed the same thing about Tuesday last week.

Looks like Dick Smiths has dropped Vodafone like a hot potato. Vodafone might need to update their Dealers page http://www.vodafone.co.nz/help/store-locations/our-store-partners.jsp

Maybe they are in the process of becoming an exclusive dealer for 2D?

No, they still sell XT phones. I had a look at their site too, and yep, all the VF stuff is gone. Only 2d or XT.

Vodafone and DSE never got along when I worked at DSE. I remember that DSE lost signing up new VF customers on contracts and DSE only had prepaid option left. Lasted a few months before DSE was allowed to sign up users to VF contract again.

I heard something along the lines of Vodafone wanting more than DSE was willing to give, hence the dumping. And I remember being told late last year by a former DSE employee that they were one of the biggest resellers of vodafone stuff, obviously things must have changed.

Oh well these commercial agreements, they may have split now, but who knows they might get back together again, just like Telstraclear back to becoming a Vodafone MVNO.

Hi Johnr, considering you spend so much time commenting on other topics on Geekzone and appear to be a relatively active member and proponent of Vodafone, maybe you can enlighten us as to whether Vodafone has a public position about this.

Thx

Yep - did notice that a couple of weeks back.
Needed a cheap pre-pay for work. No Vodafone on their website - wasnt particularly wanting vodafone anyway, but...

Went into the store and found a cheap handset that did what I wanted (VF as it happens), didnt have a SIM so the guy behind the counter said here you go and got out a 2 degrees SIM - suited me fine - but was surprised they werent trying to sell me a VF SIM.

Figured VF must be on the way out at DSE.

It seems this now has reached the mainstream media (after a week around here) and Vodafone seems to be saying Dick Smith has dumped them. NBR, for subscriber only (I'm not).

Yeah, love that pay-wall.  Somehow me thinks not.

Interesting what this search returns (or doesn't as the case maybe): http://dse.resultspage.com/search?w=vodafone&

Pay more to receive the news early (NBR)... or just wait for the main media.
