Hi everyone. I need to purchase a wireless router as my wife will soon be working from home on a laptop. I have read the thread about setting up with alternative firmware, but its pretty old.

What is a good, easy to set up router that is suitable for use with Cable and will work without having to install other firmware?

Its main use will be to my PC (wired) and a wireless laptop connecting to a VPN. It may also be used in the future for streaming to my Samsung LCD or media box.

I use the Cisco SRP 521W (100 Mbps in all ports, two VoIP lines and USB used for 3G modems).

Have the NETGEAR WNDRMAC v2 here for testing and it performs really well. The main difference is the NETGEAR has gigabit WAN/LAN ports and USB used for storage devices.

Tried the Linksys E3220 and while very good (gigabit in all ports as well) it seems it will crash under heavy load (I mean HEAVY load, such as 100 Mbps cable, while having hundreds of open connections).

I use a TP-Link router flashed with Gargoyle firmware, list of tested routers, which I really like. It's a less expensive option too.
I would recommend you don not buy any of the Linksys UFO (internal antenna) routers, as their wireless performance is shoddy (Two family members and one friend own them).

Hi jonboy,

Yes - you can get access to your VIP discount in store. If you know your customer number just tell the staff what it is, or they can look it up for you in store as long as you have some ID on you.
