marmel: Will anyone from wXc comment about the speeds?

I doubt it. They're all pretending that no problem exists, and that it's perfectly normal.

I hear the frustration but be fair eh, they know and have acknowledged there's a problem as maverick said on 3 March reply 114279. Having said that, good on Mike for demonstrating a surprising alternative!

I took my issues right up to management, who flatly refused to even acknowledge the existance of an issue, insisting the issue was mine.

I don't want to defend or criticise WxC here but it's obvious that some people are experiencing some serious issues with their service and yet other people are fine. If you are experiencing issues why not just change ISP rather than putting up with bad service?

It's not like WxC is a monopoly and restricts you from moving - they don't even have term contracts locking you in for a fixed period.

We live in a free market where competition exists in most parts of society - I typically won't go back to a cafe or restaurant if I receive bad service or bad food. An ISP is no different - if you're not happy then move you money elsewhere.

Not sure if you are married or not but changing ISP only a few months after signing up, changing email addresses etc would probably leade to my divorce.

I don't think wXc is that bad, I just wanted to find out if this is still a recognised issue and if so is there a solution in the pipeline.

So the users that are getting good speeds to the US how fast is it? Especially in comparison to your local speeds.

In these days people shouldn't use the ISP-provided e-mail address. Use Live Mail, or Gmail, or just register a domain with your family name and use hosted services - there are lots of free services including Windows Live and Gmail hosted options.

Also for business purposes even if you don't run an email server, just register a domain and use the free hosted services. It looks much more professional. I really think twice when I see companies with websites but e-mail address @isp.co.nz for example.

Back on topic, it was discussed before by Maverick that there is a plan in place and it is their policy not to discuss this publicly.

As sbiddle says, if you are not happy, move to another provider. WxC reads the forums so they are aware and most likely wotking.

As for the previous comment that WxC flatly denied any problem and blamed on the user, I will take that with a grain of salt - WxC is in many ways different from other ISPs. They were the first we saw actively working in these forums, solving problems and assuming their errors. So it wouldn't make sense to let something big like this go "undetected".

I will make one comment on this(MikeGayner), this user that made these comments was actually terminated form our service due to some abusive postings directed at indivuidal staff memebers and posting some of staffs private information he recieved in EMails when specifically asked not to this was totally unacceaptable , we also had a number of complaints from our own staff about the abusive and aggresive behaviour that they recieved on the phone with a number of different staff, we had some serious concerns and elected to terminate services due to this, not something we ever do lightly and is the first case we have had to do due to this I personally rang this customer and advised him of the termination.

Yes you are right we are aware of customers comments and as you have pointed out we have our policy in place and won't be continually replying to the comments.

I appreciate your points but I don't want to have to change my email address again to a domain or anything else. I also do not want the hassle of switching ISP's again, especially with the hassle I went through getting fusion set up.

I wanted some input from other xnet users that have decent speeds to the US to see what I should be getting as a percentage of my local speeds. My local speeds are not that great anyway, more so after my profile was changed to try and stop lost calls with vfx. My average speedtest download would be around 2400kbps, with an average US test about 15% of that. Is that a normal percentage??

With regards to wXc not posting about bandwidth issues that is their decision and I'm sure they have their reasons for doing so. However, any other reported problems seem to get a pretty quick response here. I'm not here flaming wXc and as I said I don't want to change providers, even if someone from wXc posted saying they are working on it would be enough for me to keep the faith.

Edit: Maverick beat me to it but I've left my post intact.

There were a couple of threads about oyr policy, Paul Clarkin and Myself have both outlined the policy, basically we have a schedule in place , we monitor the usage , comments feedback etc

And of course anyone in Wellington for the Geekzone event will be able to talk directly to me Wink

OK thanks for your post Maverick.

I would still like someone else to post their speeds to compare if possible.

I don't know much about internet speeds or how they are affected by various factors but say for example you got a 3000kbps score from the Auckland server using speedtest.net, how much would you expect to get using the LA server?

If my speeds are really bad compared to others I will call the helpdesk. If I'm in the same boat I wil just wait and see what happens in the next 3-4 weeks.

Wow, this is so untrue I'm not even sure where to start, so I just wont bother. Anyone with half a mind of their own can see through this thin veil. And I know you like to think you terminated my services, but you knew well and truely that I had already organised my new ISP when you phoned me.

Now that we have heard both sides I hope this stops here and now. No more words about this. I am not privy of any of the steps, causes, actions on this case, but this is not the venue to argue about it.

Here is my Local Speedtest to the Auckland server:

This is on Xnet's old Xtream plan which has 2Mbps down / 128kbps up.  IP address is in the 118.90 range.

Compare this to the LA result:

As you can see, my Local and LA results are almost identical, but then it is nowhere near peak time at present.  If others are experiencing greatly different results from these at the present time, then that is very puzzling indeed Undecided

Oddly, even though I live 20 min from Auckland in Orewa, I'm getting a far better ping to Wellington on Speedtest.net.

As for the LA test.. well, it was quite strange. During the short time of the testing, it shot up to 5MB at one point for a few seconds, then down to 600KB for a bit, then hovered around 1.2MB.

I live in Churton Park, Wellington, and this is what I'm getting now...

I'm on Fusion, so my plan is FS/FS.

My international speeds are usually pretty good, but lately (i.e. last night) I was it was quite bad to the US.

One thing I found interesting though, is that speeds to Apple's trailer website (http://www.apple.com/trailers) or for that matter almost any Apple website is blazingly fast!  I could download any trailers QuickTime movie or even itunes setup (50+MB) at speeds in excess of 5mbps, which amazes me.

Wonder why..?
