How far way is d3 for chch users does anyone know?

What's the terms on their cable stuff... they do they disalow reselling the content? ie can I share my connection to my neighbours? Have to confess I never even read the toc, just saw the back cable on the power poll and signed up.

The entire cable network is upgraded to DOCSIS 3. The plans are not defined yet.

Is there a thread about on that true net stuff with a summary of the skinnie? bugger reading all those web pages, very thorough but way to much before morning coffee on sunday!

I just want to know if they still want chch pplz, how much data it uses and what if any costs involved and how they want to connect to network (I'm seeing a router, I live ip onto nix box so I'd need ports forwarded).

No thread about it. No cost involved. No idea of how much traffic it generates, but it's small, it's a router with a modified firmware. You can plug inline or parallel. No port fotward needed as it's all outgoing connections.

Don,

Yes want more in Chch. Cap can be selected, can choose from 400MB per month up to 5GB. We get good data from any selection. The bigger caps enable us to do more confirmation stuff. No costs at all apart from the usage. Tis a bridged router, sitting inline, stops testing if it detects activity.

Hope that is small enough :-)

Another note, related to this topic that may be of interest... Cheap, low performance or faulty routers (something Don found out when his 15 Mbps line was not doing more than 7 Mbps - limited by the router).

I have two routers here: the a 100 Mbps Cisco SRP 521w router and the new Cisco (Linksys) E3200, with gigabit ports all the way. Neither are cheap though, with RRP over $300 these days.

This morning I ran a speed test and got 15 Mbps (on a 100 Mbps-provisioned DOCSIS3 line). I decided to reboot the E3200, and speeds are up to 80 Mbps again after the reboot. I suspect too many connections may have slowed down the router. Never had this problem with the Cisco SRP 521w.

sort of related. I had a 25Mbs connection in the office and was using a Linksys RV032 as therouter. That worked fine. But I upgraded the line to 100Mbs symmetic and found I couild only get 50Mbs speedtest to Citylink (the line is directly connected to Citylink). I then replaced the router with a Mikrotik RB1100AH and now see 98Mbs on Speedtest.

since my last thread was locked i will post here.

just to clear things up, i was not complaining or having a cry about my speeds, was just interested to see why i would be getting over 100Mbps on telstraclears speedtest site compared to the low speeds on speedtest.net and i am aware i'm not going to get 100mbps everytime i hit the download button!

speedtest from this morning running over a oldish wireless router

freitasm: Bumping this discussion back to life now that the 100 Mbps service is actually available to customers.

It would be great to report from a few probes on the 100Mb/s service from TCL, our D-Link bridged router is 100Mb/s and has proven capable on our office LAN, but I would appreciate someone connecting it in a less critical LAN/WAN interface of this service to enable feedback on performance.

We have recently updated the software for cable connections, to improve IP allocation issues and while tested on 15Mb/s cable services we only have 100Mb/s connections on the back of LANs

100GB? You could use that all up in maybe 3 hours.

I am already on the 25Mbps 120GB plan, and I don't think TelstraClear would offer the 100Mbps plan with a low cap like you folks are implying.

This was in September 2010. Ah, how far we've come. Oh wait. Even back then 100GB for a 100Mbps plan was considered absurdly low. And now we have huge caps from other ISPs. TelstraClear never ceases to amaze.

Great now that TCL have launched this- really looking forward to the new service with higher speeds when they come and install my new modem.....can anyone advise:
A) what the new modems are...?
B)Are they wireless?
C) What are the specs for the modem etc?
D) Has anyone experienced the new speeds- what are they like now that they have launched the service 'en-masse'?

This is interesting, so i just upgraded to the 100Mbs connection, getting it installed on the 9th. I have a E5200 router, from the sounds of things ill need to upgrade, what is a good router to use.
