danoz:
Hi all. Been using the gen 2 box since December and really love it, but it has this damn niggling issues where it appears to struggle with the internet connection.
Will be watching a channel, perfectly fine, then change channel and it says “waiting for internet connection”
If you leave it for a couple of minutes it fixes itself, or flick into Netflix and then back and it seems to heal.
Internet here is fine, 2deg gigabit, unifi ap ac pro about 6m away in perfect view.
Anyone else come across this issue and have a fix? We never lose picture, it just seems to Crap itself when you change channels.
Cheers
Hi @danoz
Perhaps you can give a detailed description of your setup? Since this sounds like like a connectibity issue with your wifi, rather than a VTV issue. You're using a Unifi Wireless AP, are you using a Unifi router or something else?
Please try a direct cabled connection back to your router (you will need to go into menu/settings/more settings/network and physically select 'ethernet' to disconnect from wifi) and report back if you see the same issue occurring.
Cheers,
Grant

Thanks for the tips guys.
network setup is a 2Degrees fibre connection, gigabit, fritz box router then into a unifi switch and then direct to a unifi AP Pro (I work with ubiquiti gear)
wifi is rock solid and looking at the logs I can see no drops.
at first I thought it could be a WiFi issue so went through and did all my diags and checks and it’s fine.
the only reason I haven’t directly cabled the unit is that it’s in one of those spots that I’d have to run cable over the floor, but I might try that today
its just strange that you can be watching a show with no issues at all, and just a channel change really freaks it out. Going into settings and it shows connected and has an IP address, then back to the channel and nothing, but flick not Netflix or prime and it heals. Back to the guide and it’s all happy days. Flicking channels ok and streaming well.
Just seems to fail after watching a show, ie watched the Bourne movie last night on Three, perfect for 2.5hrs then go to the guide to watch something else and bam shows connecting to internet before an out 3-5mins and then just healed.
Will try cable for the weekend and see what happens. Will be pretty bummed if the WiFi is an issue as it’s rock solid for everything else!

Hi Danoz.. Changing channels triggers a connection back to Kaltura to ensure you are subscribed to the channel, plus also to obtain decryption keys. So if your setup is delaying/blocking a response on these calls, you'll get network connectivity or other errors. It would be worth trying via ethernet direct to the Unifi switch.. and then also the Fritz to see where the issue lies.
Cheers,
Grant

Thanks Grant, Ok now that I understand how that works, the error now makes sense.
Will do some more troubleshooting today on wireless as I'm not ruling out there could be some blocking etc. Then I will try it direct to the switch and see how it goes.
Are you aware of anyone else having issues with Ubiquiti hardware with VTV?
Make sure if you are using a third-party DNS it is not interfering with location...

Hi Danoz
I am using a Ubiquiti Unifi Security Gateway Router and Ubquiti Unifi AC's with no issues on Fibre. I would immediately suspect your Fritz box.

@ZollyMonsta … in similar vein to @danoz (and others), I have also suffered disconnects at odd but specific times.
I have the VTV ethernet cable connected.
If watching a series OnDemand, sometimes when transitioning between the end of one episode and the start of the next one, I get a black screen with just the three white dots sequentially pulsing … it stays like that until I press the Back Key, and then the OK Key.
The same thing happens randomly when there is an advertisement insertion, viz. after the advert has played, black screen and the three white dots.
Cheers.

Thanks Grant, I also too suspect the Fritz Box Router. I want to put in a new USG Pro, but just waiting to see what Ubiquiti come up with as they seem to be releasing a fair bit of gear at the moment.
I manage just over 100 sites at the moment and all have a USG of some kind, except my place lol

Fair point, I'm just using the 2Degrees DNS so should be fine.

One can never have too much Ubiquiti :)

This is true. Just nice rock solid gear. Have been using it for a very long time from PTP or PTMP links, and the Unifi is just so easy to manage and deploy.
I want to hit the buy button on a USG PRO 4, but its hardware that's about 4 years old in its current form and I know there has to be something new coming with the Dream Machine products etc.
Anyway, don't want to hijack a VTV subject with Ubiquiti Appreciation posts hehe.
Omg the VTV side, I have made a couple of changes to the wireless config and will test that, but the ethernet cable is there just waiting to be plugged in!!
I saw an earlier issue on this thread about the VTV Netflick ESN. I have this same issue - new VTV box, everything works, on ethernet. Try to launch the Netflix app and get "ESN not valid". Info screen has no ESN showing (its just blank), and also a number of other fields are not showing. Updated, reset etc, but hasn't resolved.
Is there a fix for this, or is it a dud box?

@zollymonsta is best to comment about this

Hi @woodburner
Please PM me with the serial number of the STB. I have another two with the same issue and a ticket has been raised last night with the STB manufacturer.

Grant
