Neon - poor picture quality

Does anyone else have problems with the Neon app on the VTV2 box ?

Since the last couple of evenings I have very poor picture quality using the Neon app. It's kind of blurry sometimes and moving objects showing interlace lines around the objects.

Watching any Freeview channel or anything on TVNZ on demand or Lightbox is fine.

The VTV box is wired to the Internet router.

Using the Neon app on my smart TV or Chromecast from my tablet does not have the problem.

I have done a power restart but issue is still there.

Hi Ricardinio,

I've just checked and Neon is playing in high quality on my VTV box.  Neon is implemented as a HTML5 browser app running in the Opera browser on the VTV box and uses the Sagem player that supports streams up to 4K.  The video streams are therefore played out directly from Sky's Neon CDN, so I'm not sure why or how the quality would be different between your VTV box and other players.

@ZollyMonsta my have some ideas? I'll also ask our team if they've heard of anyone else having this issue.

Hi guys,

I was just looking through my invoices for the SKY services I have and noticed that I was charged $20.93 part month charge for 16 days of SKY Movies. It should have been $9.99 as $20.93 is a full month.

I don't have any other services with Vodafone and the chat ninjas couldn't help me with my bill query who should I contact to get this resolved?

@sansom can you add any value here?

Hi @stenknz, please DM me your account details / email address and I'll look at what's happened.

VF TV is doing some strange stuff....

1. TV programmes will suddenly stop playing when using catch up TV

2. Fast forward or rewind will make the programme jump to some random point in the timeline.

3. Sound volume is all over the place. Playing a channel the sound will be fine, switch to another channel and the roof of the house will lift off.

4. I set a programme to record on TV1, 2 or Three and it will randomly record the SD Plus one channel, very annoying.

My unit is one the latest firmware.

Edit; @sansom any ideas for the above?

Hi @MikeB4,  I'm not aware of these issues affecting other customers.  It isn't occurring on my Gen 1 or Gen 2 boxes, but please let me check with the team here to see if they've heard of anyone else finding these issues.

While this doesn't sound like the restarting-live-then-can't-fast-forward-past-the-restart-point quirk, we do have a resolution for that issue coming very soon.

Rickles:

     >Interesting I did a quick check before starting work, I selected a random programme on TV2 I think it was Ben something and I had the option to catch up on TV2 or TV2 plus one. <

Just looked, and indeed those two options appear available for me too.

Hi @Rickles, this is performing as designed.  Whenever you go to any programme that's recorded or in the rewind buffer, VTV will show you all the sources it can be played from  (eg if the same episode from BBC's The Blue Planet has played recently on both TVNZ One and Sky's BBC channel it will let you choose which rewind catch up or recording to watch... useful if you don't subscribe to Sky for example)

We only recently implemented the TV2 plus 1 channel when the Home Learning content started playing on this channel.  However, when the learning content is not on TVNZ plays the standard TV2 programming delayed by 1 hour.  Because of this you will see a watch on TVNZ2 and TVNZ 2 plus 1 buttons for these shows.

We will remove the TV2 plus 1 channel when the learning content stops as there is no need for this given the 3 day rewind feature and, more importantly, given that it leads to this double up behaviour when selecting content that's played on a channel that also has a plus 1 channel...

No problem ... I have varying degrees of spare time for GZ at the moment in lockdown, balancing two sub-10 years old kids + working partner.  Emphasis on varying!

@MikeB4, the responses from the team here:

1. There are no known issues.  However, are you referring to what happens when a TV programme is running behind the scheduled time?  If so, then the catch up feature will stop the playback at exactly the time scheduled and you will need to go to the start of the next programme to see the over-run.  Recordings behave slightly differently as we pre-pend and append a small buffer to allow for programmes that diverge from time scheduled.

2.  As mentioned in an earlier post, if this is the the restarting-live-then-can't-fast-forward-past-the-restart-point quirk, we do have a resolution for that issue coming very soon.

3.  Make sure you have your audio set to STEREO under menu/settings/more settings/audio & visual & reset audio level there also.

4. Please check my earlier answer to @Rickles, is this what you're experiencing?  This will only explain the TV2 recordings however as we don't have the plus 1 channels for TV1 & TV3.

A check with colleagues and no one else is seeing any issues with Neon quality.  Unfortunately I can't check this for myself at the moment, but can in a few days.

Is there any particular programme you are noticing this on @Ricardino ?

@sansom Further to above....

1. It occurs even with programmes that played an hour or two earlier completely clear of any of the scheduled times.

2. This is occurring again with programmes that are past the schedules time.

3. I will check the audio settings of my unit when I finish work.

Can the VTV Gen2 be switched from bluetooth remote to IR remote mode? If possible, I'd like to control my box with and IR flasher and Philips Pronto from another room. If so, how does one switch to IR mode, and where is the IR remote sensor on the box?

If you go to Settings->Connected Devices you will see the remote control option there shows you its pairing status and how to pair/unpair the remote control (hold the 3 + yellow buttons together for 5 seconds) .

To revert the IR back to its factory state :

  1. Press and hold the Blue and Menu buttons until the Power button blinks green twice
  2. Press 9 four times, the Power button will blink green each time you press 9.  After the fourth time, the Power button will blink Red four times and your remote will be back to it's original state

@sansom I fixed the audio issues on your advice so thanks heaps for that, much appreciated. The other issues still exist and are driving my wife nuts and she has threatened to see how the VF TV box performs as a frisbee. Don't blame her really it is very frustrating.
