The only downside of the deal was that Vodafone insisted on changing the account number, which meant a hassle setting up direct debit facilities and clashes between the old account and the new one. Why this was necessary, heaven knows!

And also, let’s hope, isn’t the start of the decline into madness of having to deal with Vodafone account problems, as based on my experience it’s in these situations of multiple accounts for the same address where things can go horribly wrong with Vodafone. My worst customer service experience with an NZ company, only bettered by the incompetents at Loot Crate…

Glad you’ve got the new equipment set up, though.

I have a suspicion that VF have finally done something in their accounts area as, finally, they told us we could migrate works multiple fixed line services with our mobile into 1 account. So we had 4 or 5 different account before! Something that they were unable to do for, what, forever?

My recently installed whole of house WiFi coverage from Vodafone has just ceased to connect.  I suspect that there is an internet problem in the world somewhere that is preventing the Deco Cloud service from connecting to the Decos, ethernet connectivity to the Internet is good.  Arrgh ...

That doesn't sound likely because problems at Vodafone would be expected to affect other users. My Deco's are fine and I haven't heard of anyone else with problems.

Have you found out what caused it?

Yes, I reinstalled them today and they worked.  Yesterday I used the simple Voda instructions https://www.vodafone.co.nz/help/broadband-and-tv/superwifi/ and connected the primary directly to the Ultra Hub as in the picture.

Today after installing them they worked and I had internet access from all my wireless devices.  I tried to access the primary Deco from my desktop and looking on the app for the IP address I noticed it was  192.168.1.1 the same address as the Ultra Hub which is a problem.  After Googling the TP-Link website I found that the Deco can be installed as the primary site router or as an AP.  Whether this was yesterdays problem or not I don't know.  Using the App I changed the config from Router to AP and they rebooted and came up correctly and worked.  I presume because I factory reset them during the installation process yesterday I changed the out of the box configuration from AP to Router.

SteveC: ... big snip - ref pg 10 of this forum ... Things just go downhill from there until I reboot both devices. Got so bad recently that when I tried to reboot the Decos, the app simply said it couldn't - I had to power cycle them manually.
My past experience with consumer grade equipment has not been great. Is it 'normal' to have to reboot the Decos every week or so?

If a device is really old, or really old drivers, it wont see a wifi network that broadcasts Wifi6 - you need to upgrade the drivers or disable the AX wifi on the Deco. I've had this with an old Acer laptop. updated drivers then it was fine.

A reboot once a year at most would be expected. If it is a regular reboot, to sort connectivity, then thats usually a networking issue - eg two DHCP server devices on the network, or a bad device causing a network storm. The issue will reoccur after a period of time, so you end up rebooting regularly. Take a close look at whats connected and how they are configured.

The App talks to the Decos via cloud connection, not local lan. So if the Decos cant talk to the internet, then the app cant reboot them.

Thanks for your advice, almost exactly the same as the advice I got from Vodafone Support. ;-)
At this stage (intermittent problem - can't be sure) it appears that my more serious problems were the result of having a DLNA based music device plugged into the second port on my primary Deco. (Similar to the recommendation for VTV on this page.)
Plugged the stereo into its own Ethernet port and wifi has been going at a reasonable speed for a few days now. Roaming is still a black art to me though. Perhaps is is all about 802.11r & friends! https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/stories/detail/960.
The TP-Link 'stories' page has a few other posts regarding Decos. Might be worth reading more!

I have to hand Vodafone a bouquet.
Was rung out of the blue (Have been out of contract for 6 years) and offered the same service of unlimited broadband and landline phone for $15 a month cheaper. They replaced the Huawei router with the current model and supplied a pair of  TP-Link Deco. I wasn't planning to change providers, so being tied for a further 2 years to pay for the hardware is no hardship.

Perhaps I might have to pluck some of the flowers out of the bouquet!
Just got my first bill from Vodafone and the savings are not $15 per month, just $5.  The Indian who talked me into the whole deal I suspect was quoting costs GST exclusive.  He was very difficult to understand over the phone line. Also I have been charged $175 for the replacement router (freight incl) which was not mentioned in a later phone discussion with the technical support.
In the end I've got a more efficient installation and I guess the super wi-fi made the hoops one went through worthwhile, but for the amount of saving on the monthly bill I'm not sure I'd have bothered if hindsight had been a gifted power!

cheers

Tony C.

I would escalate that. On the face of it, it looks like something that Vodafone needs to rectify.

My phone by default records all calls. Also you are not legally required to advise the other party. This is very handy sometimes as you can imagine. There's no 'he said - she said".  They definitely should be advising you of the correct figures and other costs !

I'd be talking to them.

Yes, That's how my PC is connected. I'm getting a full 100mbs using Ookla speed test.

Yep but you could also buy a usb micro wifi adaptor for just a few dollars and stick that into the pc.

Has anyone had any intermittent issues with devices plugged into the second Ethernet connection on a Deco? I had big problems, documented here. That was with our Panasonic stereo which includes a DLNA server, plugged into the Deco's second port. Been going much better since I reconfigured the network so they each plug into my main switch.
