I know it is a long shot, any remote chance Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 will have Wifi Calling support activated?

I have tried a few things to get it working.

- Flashed Lineage OS (and other custom ROMs)

- Flashed the latest firmware and vendor files from the latest stock ROM.

- Using short codes *#*#4636#*#* shows

  • VoLte Provisioned
  • Video Calling Provisioned
  • Wifi Calling Provisioned

IMS Status:

  • IMS Registration: Not Registered
  • Voice over LTE: Unavailable
  • Voice over Wifi: Unavailable
  • Video Calling: Unavailable
  • UT Interface: Unavailable

So far no luck...

(correction) Meanwhile, I try an old Apple iPhone 4S, with a 2 degrees sim, and it works without any problem (that sim doesn't work on the Redmi Note 7 though). 🤦‍♂️

Since the Sure Signal boosters are being retired, we will have no cellphone reception at home at all after the 10th of December.

It would be nice to not have to buy an expensive new phone just to get wifi calling working, or a cellphone booster. 🙄

Xiaomi's as far as I know and under my testing don't actually do WiFi Calling(maybe in the future) even if you remove the carrier check. VoLTE works great though but if you can't get reception at your home then you're still screwed.

Nope it doesn't, so assume the generic response from Vodafone?

Yeah I tried bypassing the handset check, by trying to make the Redmi Note 7 appear as a Samsung Galaxy S21.

The Indian version of the phone supports wifi-calling, was hoping that perhaps that might translate to the global version, short of taking this even further and digging through firmware / vendor files, learning more etc... 🙄

Oblivian:

The internet suggests

VNZ - New Zealand (Vodafone NZ)
TNZ - New Zealand (Telecom NZ)
NZC - New Zealand (2degrees)

XSG is UAE. And my unlocked S3 was XSA

Not off the cards that XNZ could be all. Or its multi csc and hasn't picked up the sim change. A reset with intended sim use to be needed. But apparently that's improved. Dual sim may screw with it however

I have a Vodafone sourced S21 Ultra 5G (SM-G998B) and its unique CSC is XNZ. FYI

Oh. Can I enable it without them, or do I need to wait (have they indicated an ETA)? Pretty crap if they are turning off Sure Signal tomorrow if a 1 year old flagship phone doesn't have that feature enabled.

As per the website there are bunch of devices already rolledout. Below Note20 models are in the pipeline - suggested ETA looks to be 1~2 months

According to Vodafone's website they are working on that phone's update with an ETA of 1 to 2 months

Thankfully, I am not actually affected by this, as I have coverage in my areas, but man, it's really poor they haven't got this sorted. They should leave SS in place given they haven't got their stuff together.

My phone is not currently supported, so I might borrow a Samsung A10 (shown as "supported soon").  Has anyone tried the Wifi calling on the A10 recently?

Sadly I know the history of that particular A10. It was once accidentally dropped down a toilet .  I'm not sure I can ever forgive VF for driving me to this...

I believe a number of the newer Xiaomi phones do support WiFi calling, but it's up to VFNZ to allow it. I know the Mi11's for example support WiFi calling on Vodafone UK and at least one of the German phone providers.

Never doubted Xiaomi didn't support it. It's just not something that works right now(even with a 2degrees sim in my Poco F3, VoWiFi does not work but I expected this). So in the future "maybe" this will work.

@konfusd has mentioned in the past that as long as VoLTE is turned on VoWiFi should work just fine as it's tied to IMS.

On one hand WiFi calling doesn't bother me because I live in the Christchurch. If I was living back where I was by Parahaki in almost a dead zone for any carrier I'd be losing my mind because I would hate to have to walk up the drive way just to get any useable just so I could make a call.
