I think some of you are missing the point with regard to VFNZ sold iPhones.

They're the only ones in the world (that I know of - happy to be corrected) that are unlocked.

So you can take a VFNZ sold iPhone and make it work on a network anywhere in the world without voiding your warranty.

That makes them very valuable.

I won't apologise for doing what we need to do to stop people buying these things and shipping them offshore. It's that simple - this is a practice that is outside the T&C for buying an iPhone from us and we will work to make it as difficult as possible for those that want to do it.

Newguy: I think the best idea is to buy one on a $40 plan, use it for the 3 Months where you get 1Gb of data and all those Pxts then Decide what network you want to be on as the cost is the Same as buying one outright just get plan charges for a few months...

That's a good plan unless you were thinking of taking advantage of a new XT plan (whatever and whenever), and assuming that the XT plans are locking you into a contract as well.

I think there are too many unknowns with what XT are doing with the iPhone at this stage to bank on being able to swap to XT from VF without losing a fair chunk of change.

I've got my fingers crossed that XT will announce the iPhone prior to Friday - else I may just be stuck on Vodafone for another 2 years, not something that I relish the thought of.

Oh well bang goes the theory that XT will release on Friday, Apple just emailed this to me: http://www.apple.com/nz/iphone/buy/

Which implies that only VF will be the only ones selling it in NZ.

Unless they change the page when XT announces?

Placeholder grey bar is still there. I fully intend to get an iphone, but I will probably wait a week or two before I buy, just to give Telecom one last chance.

Also, does anyone know the quality of VFs 3G network in Dunedin? Specifically North Dunedin, around town and the University.

1. I'm reading on (https://www.vodafone.co.nz/iphone/plans.jsp#expander5) that it is not possible to 'early resign' until 12+ months after the contract is signed. So, not sure how those who are planning on buying a contract on Friday and then cancelling immediately after are going to fare.

2. Obviously the T&C with Apple calls for VF to be strict in ensuring unlocked phones don't go offshore. I doubt anyone here would really fault VF for upholding that part of your contract with Apple, and I don't think Paul called anyone a pirate. I suppose the question is whether the way VF are going about it is, in fact, the only model. I'm sure there are loopholes, and I'm sure all VF have to do to satisfy Apple is to at least *attempt* to stifle units being shipped offshore.

3. I'm actually surprised that some folks are surprised that the plans are not really that different. I was pretty much convinced that there was nothing 'new' that VF were going to introduce plan-wise in association with the 3GS. There was little incentive for them to alter the plans, and they certainly would not want to cannibalise other plans and the sales of other units.

Those people are not looking at an early resign- which ill be doing.
They are looking at an early termination to switch to Telecom XT when/if they they get the Iphone

Those people are not looking at an early resign- which ill be doing.

They are looking at an early termination to switch to Telecom XT when/if they they get the Iphone

Paul, AFAIK they are also being sold unlocked in Australia - hence all the talk in the forums of buying in Oz, claiming GST back, and bringing them back to NZ. Nevermind warranty etc.....

I think your stance is fair enough but then I'm not hanging out to move to XT :)

So clearly we arent the only ones with unlocked iPhones...

I have done some research.

To obtain 90$ off a brand new iphone 32gb white/black.

iPhone 32gb wiht out a contract retails at $1379

Why not do this save $90,

1. Go on a $40 plan, pay $899
2. Disconnect the plan early termination a fee of $350
So total would only be $1289 rather than paying $1379

The advantage are:
save $90 and get free all the benefit for the 1st month of the $40 plan.

disadvantage: it might consume most of your time, ringing and waiting waiting for the contract to be cancel.

Questions, is the phone unlock? if i follow this process will i be able to pop in prepaid sim card and shold boot up with no problems? How about a XT network card.
