With somewhat ancient router.. will test with another (newer but still a few years old) router tonight.

Hi Lias. In at least one case I know of (me this morning!) a factory reset of the wireless router fixed connection problems. If you're not getting 100Mbps or pretty close to it with the modem plugged directly into the PC's ethernet port and using the TelstraClear speedtest site, email me your account number and details and I'll ask one of the team to look into this for you.

And as noted before, if your modem has QoS settings make sure they are correctly configured for the new speeds.

No, seriously, 8ms ping is cool to see, and this is going to do great stuff for IT.

10mbit up speed is great and the lower latency is going to mean snappier web sites.

Wife visits very rich sites all the time and she says her computer is much more responsive.

Glad we got the 100GB from 40, cause I suspect we're really going to use it now!

Hi all.

Just got the new 100 gig service installed. My results are a little disappointing wondering if anyone can help me with some ideas.

Hardwired into the modem I've got this

Download Speed: 98767 kbps (12345.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 9750 kbps (1218.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 8 ms

But when i plug into my router i've only got this..

Download Speed: 39383 kbps (4922.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 9718 kbps (1214.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Just brought a Belkin Play N600 router only a few months ago, technician told me it wasn't good enough for the sort of speeds I was hoping for is this true?? any other ideas??

Make sure there is no QoS set, or set it correctly to the new speeds.

Hi Glorynz. I'm assuming that you are using the TelstraClear speedtest (http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/customer-zone/speedtest/) and:

1. with the modem connected to the computer and the router not connected at all you get 98787/9750
2. with the modem connected to the router and then to the computer (by cable, not wireless) you get 39383/9718

If this is the case, try a factory reset of your router (you will need to re-enter your IP address, subnet, gateway and the DNS numbers so make sure you have these - and the original factory username and password for the router). A factory reset worked for me personally with an Asus dual-band router.

If you're getting the 100/10 (or thereabouts) with the modem connected the router and then to the PC, but your wireless network is running at lower speeds, the problem is in your wireless network and you will need to investigate or get a computer repair/set-upservice to come and help you as your own network is something that we can't administer.

Please note that the following information is provided purely to help and TelstraClear accepts no responsibility or liability for the information, any software used or consequences from the use of it. Also, please note that it would be rare, as far as I know, for a wireless network to run at the same speed as you would get over a wired network.

That said... a wireless analyser like inSSIDer might help. There are others that a Google search will find. The Geekzoners can probably suggest some other useful tools. The inSSIDer site has a forum section that might be useful as well. Again, others here on Geekzone will be able to provide advice that may help.

If you look at that review, it seems you should be able to get high throughput at short range with 5.8 ghz, but pretty weak 2.4 ghz performance. that's assuming you're using wireless.

Are you using wired or wireless for that speedtest from your router? If it's wireless it's a pretty typical result for wireless, no matter what band you're using. If it's via a cabled connection it shows either QoS configuration slowing down your router or that the router is simply not up to the job. Most reviews online rate it as a pretty average unit, and it is a few years old so it wouldn't in any way surprise me if it's incapable of routing over 40Mbps WAN<->LAN.

I reset the router and I'm getting better speeds tonight of around 60 near the router wireless but downstairs where i spend most of my time only getting around 30 which is a bit rubbish.

Can anyone recommend a good router that covers long distance?? Seems my one is already outdated!

Nothing wrong with those speeds, simple reality is they are real world results. Welcome to the world of vendors selling wireless products with numbers that aren't real world figures.

If you want better wireless downstairs install a 2nd hardwired AP.

wonder how many calls TCL are dealing with for 5+ year old routers not getting 100M throughput :-)

sbiddle, Freitasm, should a post of capable routers be started?

I have a Lynksys (cisco) E4200 which I hope will do the job when i get connected tomorrow :-)

Perhaps if anyone who has full speed can start posting what router you use, this can help others who need to upgrade.

Geekie, I think you will be reasonably impressed with the E4200. The Wired speed is 100Mb all the time (actually, it will do ~940Mbps via iPerf, wired).

Wireless on 5.8Ghz, in the same room, you should have no problems driving 100Mbps (unless there are a storm of 5.8G wireless-using geeks raging around you).

The range on the E4200 isn't stellar, however, due to it's planar, internal MIMO antannae.

I have actually vertically mounted mine and gained some more range/signal coverage.
