I have the Asus (small townhouse and it's on a shelf so needs to look 'ok' for WAF) on the 100Mbps service. I haven't had time to do any testing but it seems pretty good. Note that it's a small townhouse though so any decent router is probably OK.

I have been told that using channel 13 on 2.4Ghz can improve performance (worth testing). If you have a dual-band router, I'm also told that you should set one channel as N only (I use the 5Ghz for that but note that some devices don't have 5Ghz radio). It does seems to be better.

Also, I suggest playing about with channel bandwith (eg, 20, 20/40, 40 Mhz).

Just my personal thoughts.

DoomlordVekk: Geekie, I think you will be reasonably impressed with the E4200. The Wired speed is 100Mb all the time (actually, it will do ~940Mbps via iPerf, wired).

Wireless on 5.8Ghz, in the same room, you should have no problems driving 100Mbps (unless there are a storm of 5.8G wireless-using geeks raging around you).

The range on the E4200 isn't stellar, however, due to it's planar, internal MIMO antannae.

I have actually vertically mounted mine and gained some more range/signal coverage.

Nice tip on the vertical mounting, I had noted the low range so I might give that a try.

Im getting very close to max and I use a bog standard tp-link. I would also note that a couple of people showed they tested at 6-10pm at night. Speeds will/may be slower. Dont forget to also test off peak as well. Mine does drop away in the evening.

skl17: I have just had the Tech round today and was told that my speed would increase to 100 mbps between 8 and 9 pm tonight- I was averaging about 18-19 mbps beforehand and am now only getting 27mbps...using the latest Airport Extreme from Apple as the router, which claims to have a download capable speed of between 300mpbs and 1000mbps- I am on the phone to TCL now to try and resolve the issue, but have been in a queue for nearly an hour...anyone have any ideas or similar experiences since the upgrade? Also just discovered something disturbing.

Was sorting out some new CPE for a key customer, to replace an older Belkin router that was barely managing 50Mbps.
So, bit of a read around and I thought that the Linksys E3200 would be a good wee device to replace the Belkin with.
Configured it up and did a couple of wired tests against the Speed test servers. Was quite surprised when I could only get ~82Mbps NAT'd throughput across it....Grrrr. Unplugged the E3200, put the machine off the back of the DPC3008 and ran the tests again. 100Up/10Down. Double Grrrr...
Its fair to say that whilst Cisco says that the E3200 might connect at up to 300Mbps via both the 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz radios, emperical testing says that the CPU can't keep up at 100Mbps between it's Gig Ethernet switch ports and it's routed/NAT'd WAN Port.

lots of mouth but not a lot of trousers....
It's larger brother the E4200 has made a good showing in it's place.
However, at ~$350, it's getting up there in dollars though.

In my testing the E32000 started slowing everything down when I had more than 25 simultaneous torrents with more than 20 connections each. It simply went down to 2 - 5 Mbps until I restarted it and went up again to the 80 - 90 Mbps...

Ok done some more testing and I am getting very strange results.

With my laptop connected directly to the modem, testing to TCL's Speedtest I get...

Last Result:
Download Speed: 98830 kbps (12353.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 9575 kbps (1196.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 13 ms

I get almost exactly the same speed when going via my router.

However speed to anywhere other than TCL had decreased after the upgrade

Is it normal for the cisco modem to reset 5-6 times in 10mins?
I was playing battlefield 3 on the PS3 and it dropped connection and the screen on my router would pop up with cable not connected and then connected again.

It happened a couple more times so I pulled the power on both the router and modem to see if that would help but it did it a few more times.

It then came right for a few minutes and I started typing this post and it just did it again?!

Although only minor and the only problem Ive had so far (that hasnt been my fault) Im hoping this isnt the end to the main reason I pay the extra for cable - reliability.

Im not usually up this late gaming, does it sometimes reset for some reason or another?

Seems ok now and speedtests around 84mbit to the telstraclear servers which is acceptable...nope didnt even get to finish this sentence and its gone out again. Grrr....waiting for connection to come back to post.
