thats depends on what telecom would call rural, as the council would class rural otherwise.
telecom would probably calss rural as a town with 100 people where as the council would class rural as a town with less that 5000 people like dargaville.
But their aint many towns in NZ with less than 1000 peole in it, probably about 5 if that

I think urban is classed as a town with more than 5000 people in it

I think this one would be easier to understand as telecom by the looks of it goes by what the Government calls Rural/Urban

Did anyone who tried to sign up to fusion yesterday and ended up leaving their name and number with a sales person get called back?

I'm still waiting, was only supposed to be 1 to 1 1/2 hours, now been 24.

I don't want to call back again if they are swamped, I can wait a bit longer.

Niel: Note that it looks fine on FireFox, but when I had to go to work this afternoon for an emergency Yell I saw it did not work on my PC on IE7. The thing at the bottom of the screen was over the text instead of below it. Anyone else picked this up?

Yeah, I noticed that too Niel, thought it was just my PC or something. This first page:

http://www.xnet.co.nz/fusion/

is a bit of a mess at the bottom as you have described Frown

Other pages are OK though and provide a lot of useful information. Well done to the guys at WxC for collating all of that and putting it together in one place as a handy reference tool Smile

Yes thanks Guys, we had picked this up but needed to get the site up, it required a couple of changes but our web developer has a personal tragedy (my condolences to you and your family Stu) that occured on Friday and we couldn't get the changes rectified in time but will do so shortly, we just wanted to get the Web site up with the info on the day we said it was going to be. We will amend any errors in the near future.

Corrections made to the Web Site, so all should be okay now,

Just a heads up for anyone that has their home phone line with Ihug.

I have just spoken to one of their tech guys and he had no idea about ndsl or the process with customer link etc that needed to be done.

He asked their provisioning team and they knew nothing about it either.

I must say though that he was friendly and helpful and was going to look into it. Hopefully if I am the first to switch from Ihug they may have some protocol in place thereafter.

I have to call them back later. If all else fails I will have to switch the home line back to Telecom first which is a bit of a hassle.

As an aside he mentioned that they have received no notification that the broadband had been switched to xnet (done 18th Dec). Do I have to let them know or would xnet/Telecom let them know to stop billing me?

What happens with churns is that we send through notification to the losing provider to let them know we intend to move the connection, then Telecom should also send through a notification to tell them to stop the billing.  I would recommend also following up with them to make sure that the billing is stopped.

The thing that is missing from this page http://www.xnet.co.nz/fusion/ (unless the rule has changed) is that xNet only support certian models of Linksys Modems/ATA/Routers for VoIP.
If I did'nt know better I would take the following statement from that page and think to my self Hmmmmm I have a Belkin 4 port wireless Router which is VoIP enabled and think I could use that, correct me if I'm wrong, if I'm not wrong then someone needs to alter the page before it confuses anyone.
It should have on it what models xNet support of a link to them.

By employing either a voice capable DSL router or adding an Analogue Telephone Adapter (ATA),you can make digital voice calls using your existing telephone over your Broadband connection.

Thanks starspangle- the wording has been modified.

As always we appreciate everyone's thoughts on the site and have made a number changes and additions as a result of your comments.

By the way, the discussion in the Broadband section of the forums were instrumental in helping us form a stance on the issue of wiring maintenance. We had a massive 'pros' & 'cons' list but the discussion inputs from everyone made the decision easier. Of course it may not have gone the way some would like, but we feel that the outcome is fair to both WxC and the Subscriber

On the FAQ's page the link should also be added there under

Q. Can I use my existing phone?

A. Yes, standard touch tone telephones can easily be used for IP-telephony when connected through either an (enter link to hardware here) Voice-capable DSL router or analog telephone adapter (ATA).

Also I read this

Q. Can I still use interactive services on SkyTV?

A. Yes, you will need to have a certified installer remove the master jack and rewire. We can organise a telecom technician to visit your premises to install appropriate wiring, this comes with a one-off cost of $149 incl GST.

I have Sky TV and before changing to fusion I called them about my Sky Service and interactive TV.

They told me that Sky dosent need the phone line connected unless your intending to use interactive TV or book movies then a connected phone line is required as this is how these services work.

This should also read that xnet only support certain types of linksys modem/routers/ATA also under (xNet Fusion broadband)

Q. Can I use my existing PC equipment? Do I need to change modems or routers?

Yes, you can use your existing PC equipment, however if your broadband router is not already VoIP capable (linksys), you will need to purchase either an Analogue Telephone Adapter (ATA) to support your voice calls or consider upgrading your DSL router to a Linksys VoIP capable unit available from many retailers. Click here for information on all WxC certified and supported devices and where to buy them.

This should also mention it

Q. Will my Xnet digital voice service be as good or better than my old fashioned phone line?

A. Yes. Xnet VFX is a next generation telephony technology. Voice calls are prioritised on our network and we only support hardware that has built-in Quality of Service (QoS) (enter link here) to ensure the quality of your call. WorldxChange has already connected more than one billion minutes of voice calls since migrating to the technology in 2004. In many ways the service is better as it offers a number of features that can be controlled by the customer through a web or voice portal. Some of these features include Call Forwarding, Call Waiting , Do Not Disturb, Anonymous Call Rejection, 3 Way Calling and Voicemail - Voicemail to Email and more - for a complete list of services please visit our website www.xnet.co.nz/vfx/features

Sorry bout all this but as an xNet customer and someone how works for an ISP I like to make sure that the hardware the company supports is on every piece of information so that the customer isn't confused about what hardware is supported, and it saves a lot of calls to the call center from angry customers saying they have this or that kind of modem/router/ATA which is VoIP enabled and that the xNet website didn't say they HAD to use a linksys Modem/Router/ATA for VoIP service.

if its 200% clear the customer has no reason to blame xNet for not letting them know what hardware is supported for VoIP.

Trust me when i signed up for xNet I already had a VoIP enable router and wanted to use that only to find they don't support it and i needed to buy a linksys ATA to connect to the router.

Be careful. I got my number put on customer link, and get a tempory replacement number.  Telecom asured me I would not loose ADSL, however, they were wrong.

This work was ment to be completed at 7pm last night, however, someone "forgot about it" so it didn't get done till i phoned 3 times, 2pm today.

Now i am sitting in dial up, because telecom "forgot" to put adsl on the new number.

I am surprised though, I managed to get my router to route internet traffic to my server which has the dial up connection.  My VFX line connected, and it works! It has an echo some of the time, and when my thunderbird does a send and receive the call breaks up a little, but it works on dial up!!
