Hi, pretty sure the Cisco modem is only DOCSIS3.0 not 3.1, so I would expect its replaced, but could well be wrong. The old Surboard is off to the bin, as with the T-box, the T-box will be replaced with the VTV that will use unicast traffic off the internet via the new internet connection (ie DOCSIS3.1)

This is correct, a new cable modem (Technicolor TC4400) is supplied. The Ultra Hub is connected to this modem. The Asus router can be plugged into the Lan port of the Ultra Hub.

Instead of an Asus router, I've plugged my AirPort Extreme into the Ultra Hub, and turned off the wifi on the hub. Works just as before the upgrade, but much much faster :D

So will there be still two modems or just one. If the latter then new wiring (ethernet) will be required as the router/NAS/ethernet to the desktop is located in another room from the TV/VTV box

Thanks for the answers. I am beginning to understand the changes needed.

Thanks looks a promising idea and still could use VOIP with the Ultrahub I assume.

This household is now fully transitioned to the new set up, and everything is working great.

A big thank you to @sansom for pulling some levers in the background to sort out a few teething issues.

Before the upgrade, I'd get 50/2 on Speedtest. Now, I reach up to 930/100 on Ethernet and while Wifi fluctuates I managed to squeeze out 530/95 on an iPhone 12.

VF reps: please note... my install has been arranged for May. It's in my account notes apparently, so why are you arranging installs for tomorrow and telling me today? It's pissing me off, it's not helping your call centre people have nice days, and Downer's too (seems that poor communications from VF is par for the course).

I wouldn't be so annoyed, but you did this last Tuesday as well. Do I have to make time in my diary every week to call your call centre? I'd like to know so I can work out how much to charge you for my time.

VF: I have talked with Downer. I will call Downer in April to arrange the time for the install on the already agreed date. I will do this because (1) it won't waste my time anywhere as much as you're doing right now and, (2) I know that I won't stuff things up like you undoubtedly will.

Thanks!

Update @ 17/2: Earlier today, I had a call from a Downer tech saying he'd be at the property to do the install in half an hour. Poor guy wasn't happy that he had not got the message that the install was not until May. Seems that VF (and maybe Downer?) STILL has not sorted its systems and processes.

We are off to a rollicking start for my migration...

1/ The appointment has been pushed back to the afternoon, after all the arrangements to be home in the morning

2/ After repeated assurance my internet would not be affected until the tech visits.... my GIG INTERNET service which I've had since it launched, with a vodafone technicolor 4400 modem.... has dropped in speeds to a consistently leisurely 50mbps down and 5mbps up. Clearly a new profile is in effect, as for why? who knows.

Friday afternoon cutover now, with 2 kids parties starting friday night.... yep....

Hi @antoniosk, let me know your account details privately and I'll have both issues investigated.  This should not have happened.

Ditto! :-) I did have a nice call from Downer today, saying that they've done what they can at their end to sort things. Hopefully VF have got the message and will stop instigating 'installs' before the agreed date in May. I'll be calling VF in April to remind them though as they really do seem to be unable to get things right.
