HELP please ... my daughter has been sent a Vodafone TV box (from vodafone) that when connected does not appear to offer a wifi connection .... first screen keeps asking for ethernet only.

The date on the Quick Start Guide is 2017 .... is this an earlier model with ethernet only???

That sounds like a Gen 1 unit.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

@MikeB4 ... that's what I was thinking, but I've not seen one before 😁

She was "sent" - as in she did not ask for it? Make sure there's no extra charges on her account for something old.

@freitasm ... yeah, apparently her husband was talking to Voda a week ago about their account renewal, and the offer of a 'free' VTV was made.

I received a free Gen1 device about 18 months ago... definitely no WiFi... I donated it to a relative.  It appears on my bill still but with a credit line to zero out the charge (if I recall correctly)

A mate of mine just joined Vodafone on a Fiber plan with a VTV included. He asked me to look at his VTV because he could not get it to connect via WiFi. It took me a few minutes to realise he was sent a Gen 1 unit. Told him to request they take the unit back and send out a Gen 2 unit - pretty crappy from Vodafone to send out old models.

If you just say your router is not located near enough to the TV for wired to be an option they should send you 2 free WiFi extenders (one to connect to the router and the other to the VTV box). At least that's what I got when I signed up a 2 years ago.

Or in my in-laws' case, send a tech who didn’t rate the WiFi extenders, so spent half a day wiring an ethernet cable around the outside of the house to get an Internet connection to the VTV...

Does Voda still sell those "wifi boosters"?

The web site returns a $0 and Buy Now link don't work.

Vodafone must have a warehouse full of Gen 1 boxes somewhere.

All sorted this end now 😀

As a matter of interest, what are the main differences between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 devices?

I've had no issue with them at 2 different houses. In both cases they have not been far apart though with the router just being on the other side of the lounge to the TV so that probably helps. From memory I think when I signed up over the phone they asked whether it could be wired to the router and then offered the extenders when I said it couldn't.
