The warranty is only valid in NZ correct? how is this relevant if it is shipped offshore?

Further up in the thread you said as far as you know Vodafone NZ are the only ones selling unlocked iPhone's, but the page you linked to has just on the first page alone has a handful of telco's which "Locked to carrier" is unticked or "Carrier offers authorized unlocking" is ticked.

Just a note guys - I read the Vodafone terms & conditions and you need to give them one calandar months notice for any early termination.

Oh and you guys reckon that Magnum Mac will still be opening at their normal time of 9.00am (Newmarket) on Friday or a super special early time for this new release?

Wasn't that problem due to NZ being the first country in the world to get the 3G? If so, shouldn't be a problem now, as the 3GS is out in a lot of countries already. And I still ain't convinced that there are so many iPhones being bought here and then shipped overseas with these prices.

Good point.  But VF will stick to their guns and no amount of whinging or pointing out the facts will change their mind.  Competition might.

There are other sources for the 3GS other than VF, so shop with them instead.  I intend do given I'm completely unable to purchase from VF on day 1 (and get the handset day 1 too).

I know. I'm not really looking into upgrading to the 3GS immediately, but since I'll be signing up two new contracts in September, I thought a good idea to check all the options. With this announcement, VF is out of my list of possible carriers.

They probably don't care, but little by little...

This thread has become a joke.

Vodafone is selling the iPhone 3GS on Friday. If you want one without a plan then purchase it online - you can do that, you know? This Friday too - you can purchase it outright! OMG! Even with a full NZ warranty and receive it most probably a lot quicker than getting one from Australia, Hong Kong or Brazil.

The majority of those complaining about not being able to get one instore on Friday seem to be suggesting that they're simply going to take them and put an XT SIM card in them. There are those of us that are pretty keen about getting a new iPhone instore to put on either a new or existing VODAFONE contract.

If the stores were full of people ordering phones for the sole reason that they're going to be shipping them overseas or using them on another NZ network and this meant that valid VF customers missed out, and if I was one of those that missed out, then I'd be pretty openly pissed off about the whole situation - much like those of you that are currently pissed off about not being able to buy a new Vodafone launched iPhone to take and use on XT at 9am on Friday morning.

Neither Vodafone, nor Paul himself, have said that this is a permanent thing. After the launch has died down I'm sure things will ease and you'll be able to buy an iPhone outright instore.

Me personally, I'm pleased about Vodafone's stance on this - gives me a chance of picking up a phone on launch day to use on a Vodafone contract, as a Vodafone customer.

If anything, people should be throwing death stares and vicious verbals at Telecom for not releasing ANY info about whether or not they will be launching the iPhone themselves on XT. If you're wanting an iPhone for the sole purpose of using it on XT then your opinions on Vodafone's stance about selling the iPhone outright are not valid I'm sorry. Move along

PaulBrislen: I think some of you are missing the point with regard to VFNZ sold iPhones.



They're the only ones in the world (that I know of - happy to be corrected) that are unlocked.





??? So didja know or didnt you?

If I remember correctly; I actually said that earlier on in the thread here.. (: I agree. But I wouldnt hold my breath on havning it allowed anytime soon to just walk in and outright buy one.


Some douche from Vodafone Albany wasn't going to sell me one because i wasnt buying it on contract (iPhone 3G)

A quick work with the manager, had it all sorted out, after I told them it was an insurance claim etc. and they happily sold it to me. but that was just a couple of months ago. LONG after the iPhone 3G launch.. So I wouldn't be waiting around for any changes to happen with the iphone 3GS

Yeah noted, but the simple fact is that there is nothing stopping ANYONE jumping on the VF website and buying one outright that way. I've done this with other phones and the process is VERY good. In a time where people are usually looking more and more to do things online surely this is a pretty acceptable alternative??

bcourtney, it has a little to do with the fact most iPhone 3GS potential buyers were mislead or got ahead of themselves into thinking it would be available outright in shops on the Friday. No strings attached.



We've been anticipating this date for some time. Delivery could take up to a week, and even longer because I presume they don't dispatch or deliver anything on weekends. So close yet so far away.

So so happy for you.  Yay!

But I am one of those existing customers who simply wish to upgrade my handset and remain on the VF network.  I'm being excluded too from purchasing outright instore, and I don't think that is overly fair.  As I said before, it is all about managing expectations.

Oh and I'm impatient too.  That is my right, and for being so I'll take my business elsewhere (at a greater inconvenience).

(edit: I don't know why I can't underline single words.  I tried doing so above but it underlined my whole damn message)
