The DNS will reply to your requests with a "local" IP and some services that use a CDN (Content Delivery Network) will forward replies to your network using the wrong path. This can cause all sorts of problems, most likely incomplete page loads.
Thanks. I've noticed already that anything that's coming of an Akamai mirror is slow or doesn't load at all so I've decided to go back to the TCL DNSes.
