freitasm:

Off topic - perhaps create your own thread but I have contacted Kogan PR after your post and here's their reply:

Yes - Kogan Mobile does support VoLTE in New Zealand!

Vodafone’s 4G Calling (VoLTE) deployment is now live across New Zealand, which is available for Kogan Mobile customers as well.

Note: Currently, iPhone users will need to switch VoLTE on manually. To do this, customers can simply look under Settings > Mobile > Mobile Data Options > Enable 4G Voice and Data.

For Samsung handset users, VoLTE is set to be default on for VoLTE capable devices, so customers with an S9 or S10 will see “VoLTE” on the top of their screen.

Thanks for that; had not seen your reply until today.

Given it's still not working I'll start another thread to see if anyone has any specific ideas. (I had assumed I was on-topic, because I understand Kogan uses Vodafone's network, including its provisioning of VoLTE.)

Different providers, ultimately Vodafone is not providing the service or support so better post in the NZ Mobile/Wireless sub-forum.

As a test, I tried VoLTE on my Xiaomi Mi9SE - and SMS works while VoLTE is enabled! w00t! Either Vodafone have SMS working over IP or Xiaomi's patched their firmwre to make it work.

For one week, I locked my Samsung S10+ to VF 4G bands only.

I went between northern suburbs and CBD using both train and car, and also drove up to waikanae.

I didn't notice any loss of signal, call quality was awesome, data speeds were always great (in terms of YouTube music streaming when in car or browsing when on train).

I also noticed that prior to locking my phone to 4G, it would take up to 1 minute to gain network connectivity once I passed through the last second train tunnel when heading into town. It was not uncommon to have no signal until I got the Wellington train yards!

Locking onto 4G, signal connected before I left the tunnel, it was fantastic!

Now, my only issue, and this is a big one, and is why I have now locked my phone onto 3G/4G mode, is that I was getting A LOT of missed calls while it was connected to VOLTE only. Is this a flaw with VOLTE? Does it need 3G network to ensure calls can be received?

I will test further to see if I can receive any calls while locked to 4G, I thought I could but I could be wrong.

Also, texts worked fine from memory while locked to 4G.

Thanks!

I would be surprised if your S10+ wouldn't work sending SMS as it's an offically supported device. Whereas mine is not and you have to do some background things to make VoLTE work. Orignally SMS wouldn't send while VoLTE was enabled for me.

I'm interested about your missed calls issue. This has been plauging our company since we changed over to VF - so many missed call messages while having coverage (where the phone does not ring). I've also just put my phone into 4G only mode to see how things go! hah at least there's good 4g coverage at home

Seems I spoke too soon. Perhaps it was to do with the network issues from yesterday, but SMS is not working for me anymore with VoLTE :(

jamesrt: I bought myself a Nokia 7.2 for Christmas; the handset was purchased over the counter at Harvey Norman.

As far as I can tell, the phone isn't doing VoLTE; not that it's a big deal; but geekpoints, etc...

Update: Android 10 update dropped this morning, so phone upgraded, and what do we see now?  (Borrowed a SIM from another phone)

So, that's all good.

However, what's this I also see?  Interesting...

I've not tried it; I'm *supposed* to be working today...  (and it's not my normal SIM either)

Interesting. So vodafone VoLTE has been enabled on Nokia 7.2. Thats cool though vodafone doesnt mention any Nokia handsets supported for VoLTE.

Did you get a chance to check VoLTE with a Spark SIM? I am curious to know. I have Nokia 8.1 and 9 Pureview. So far no signs of VoLTE. Just waiting.

Fairly sure VoLTE on the 7.2 only works on Vodafone with the Android 10 update; I'd heard similar comments from overseas, so thought I'd check; I was on Vodafone up until just before the lockdown, and no sign of it working earlier.

I guess its possible it got enabled sometime in the last month and I wouldn't have noticed...

I don't have a Spark SIM, sorry; I'm currently on Skinny; no VoLTE there, but I don't think the Skinny platform is enabled yet.

I'm guessing there has been no update on Huawei devices on Vodafone and volte compatibility?

Does SMS work with VoLTE enabled on the Nokia?

I haven't seen anything yet and the last update I had was "still working on this with Huawei".

But nothing...

Didn't test; can do this later today as the VodaSim I borrowed is from my work phone...

Busy at moment in all the online meetings; hopefully this afternoon

Does anyone else notice a momentary cut out at the beginning of some calls along with what seems to be a switch over in voice quality?  Not sure at all if related to VoLTE but seems to coincide with the update.  Usually occurs when the caller is right the middle of identifying themselves so you can miss half their name for example.
