No, but I paid extra during peak hours for 75 'free' GBs off peak with the Torrent plan. Torrent plan = total and utter disaster where my only hope of downloading anything is to pay half again as much during peak hours. I'm now back on the regular plan and things are better, but Xnet get to charge me around the clock.

Sorry, but I can't help feeling ripped off. You seem to confuse charity with good business. If Xnet would do the right thing they'd still make money off me without leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.

Then move, but stop whining. $1/GB is staggeringly close to what Xnet pay for International (once you convert from mbit/sec cost over time and factor in the number of users and time of day use patterns).

Everyone that complains here seems to have a sense of entitlement and believes that even if Xnet is losing money on them, they should be held legally and morally accountable to support money losing users in perpetuity. You'll all dance around this of course and complain that nothing of the sort was said or inferred - but that's what it sounds like.

Then Xnet should have set their prices and plans correctly (they didn't) in the first place, or at least have promptly altered broken plans (the ONLY thing they've done is to break the Torrent plan even more badly) when it turned out they were very, very wrong about what would work. They are the ones who have set expectations and then failed to deliver. You cannot put the blame for their poor decision making and bad management on their users. Exactly how is it our fault?

Pay per meg is very cheap anyway, I dont have a problem at all paying per meg, its exactly what I was doing before the torrent plan came along. I just wish Xnet went about this a better way. Im only still giving them my money because it would cost me to move, being on Naked DSL.

Likewise, I'm giving up on moving. As awful as Xnet is I simply cannot afford Snap and now I'm hearing bad things about them too :-( I already know Slingshot is rubbish. *sigh* Nowhere else to go, it seems. I'll just have to hope new options open up soon.

If you are in Christchurch or Wellington in the right areas then Telstra is a very tempting option, its just a bit more expensive than Xnet if you are a large data user. Ive only heard good things about their speeds and service, and im pretty sure their service would never go downhill like some of these other small ISPs.

Nah, I live in Tauranga. Cable would be cool, though. However I understand a regular voiceline is part of their package anyway, and I want to stick with naked DSL (not that I've a choice right now *sigh*, but still - VoIP is cheaper).

I'm in TGA too - looks like we will be waiting a while for cable/fibre, still a long way off yet

Started off on another topic, but I guess this is similar...

I'm not actually complaining about the Torrent plan, nor discussing about its pricing, nor its slow speed. Just that it's "un-surfable" right after midnight....

NZ speeds are about 3.5Mbps / 715kbps... But international, it's down to 7kbps / 300kbps..... That is, if speedtest.net doesn't time out....

If this continues for 1 more week (I just came back from overseas), I'll keep Xnet for VFX, and go with another ISP.... I believe this isn't just "my problem"??? (THAT slow..)

Please note the Torrent option is not suitable for people who surf the net or play on-line games between midnight and 8am: as speeds are affected by the P2P and downloading activity of other users.

At WxC we want to help all our users have a better experience and by offering the HSI Torrent profile this will mean large volume subscribers ? especially those using peer to peer or torrent applications ? will be encouraged to do their non-time critical downloads during the off peak period; which will relieve pressure on the network during the day and give all Xnet users a better experience. .

The above quote from Xnet webpage.

They have openly stated it will affect your internet connection unless you are on pay per meg plan that is as far as I know!

but then many users who changed over to PPM still suffer the same fate, then make your move to another ISP.
Xnet has non-contractual sign up.

You get what you pay for.

The trouble is that other ISP`s do have contracts, connection and early disconnection fees. I was with Xtra for two years before coming to Xnet. Now if I go back to Xtra, I need to pay a network reconnection fee for going from Naked back to regular phone line, and I`ll need to stay with them another year or pay early disconnection fee, when if I hadn`t been sucked in by Xnet`s non-contract blurb, I would still be with Xtra, enjoying great speeds and way past the early disconnection period. That`s why having no contract is not exactly an advantage for customers, it`s only an argument Xnet can to use when their customers keep complaining about their sub-standard service. `If you don`t like it, then leave.` It`s not that simple and it`s not how things should work.

yup I agree fully Naked DSL is a joke . Is a pity one cannot move from one naked DSL to another.

I Know you need to go thru' the ritual of get telecom land line again there is the issue. And that cost $$

A phoneline has never been a requirement for a cable modem connection. Cable connections have always been available as a naked plan.

The rep I spoke to on the phone said it was a package deal *shrug* Regardless I won't be moving to Wellington any time soon.

Well something has happened to my connection. I've always been on the Pay-Per-Meg plan and it was good then the Torrent plan came along and it was s#$t and then the Torrent plan users got pooled and it improved, but then they obviously just started dling during peek hours and it got worse again.However now.. now I notice a slight slowdown during the hours of 4-6pm, however any time other than that (even the 12am->8am times) are fine.
