Ethernet.

Cat 5E 15meters length from Ultrahub/router to POE ( needed for POE security camera) switch then short Cat 6 patch cable. Same speeds with out POE switch.

Also thanks for the info regarding 500 up people. Clearly the person on the phone was not clear that I was retaining HFC. Happy though with 100 up and my Chorus fibre ONT is sitting under the computer ready for when Vodafone pull the plug on HFC or the price is not competitive anymore.

I will ensure our sales agents are reminded of their trainng that the Ultrafast Unlimited Plan on HFC ($63/mth) plan is 1000/100, not 1000/500, and we expect you'll get download speeds of up to 700-900 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 90-95 Mbps.

We definitely have no plans to pull the plug on HFC given our new programme of significant investment in HFC, and given we can offer these speeds at the best prices in NZ.  Quite the opposite.  HFC will continue to improve as we upgrade all the customer equipment, node connections and re-farm the Tbox spectrum so that it becomes a pure IP connectivity network.

Hopefully this draws a line under the whole topic of what is happening with HFC!

Thanks for the posting Hamish. Very reassuring.

I am not getting over 700Mbps download no matter when tested but consistently 100Mbps upload when going to Ookla speedtest.net site.

Ironically downloading Speedtest for Windows f(as prompted by Ookla) I get download 727 Mbps and upload 81Mbps.

I will call Vodafone when I can steel myself.

Ultrafast HFC confusion. I note in the Hamish summary states that "Unlimited Ultrafast HFC (with new DSC3.1 modem if required) offering

download speeds of up to 700-900 Mbps, and upload speed of up to 90-95Mbps in good conditions. I may have misread comments that if you

already have DOCSIS 3.1 as some have the "Fibre 200" plan,  that people without a fibre plan are getting upgraded to the fastest fibre speed, while loyal early adopters do not.

Can someone enlighten me please.?

Hi, sorry all for being absent from the chat for a couple of weeks. There are a number of changes underway at Vodafone and so I've had to focus on other matters for a bit...

We are upgrading all HFC customers to DOCSIS 3.1 and Ultrafast Unlimited HFC so everyone will be on the fastest possible plan and have access to the latest services from Vodaofne.

The 700 - 900 Mbps is "in good conditions".   Some homes may not have ideal connections, so please contact us if you're not getting at least 700 Mbps down.  Alternatively send me a DM and I'll get someone to investigate.

In terms of the HFC network generally:

- This programme of work represents a significant investment in upgrading the HFC network and upgrading all customer modems to be fully DOCSIS3.1 compliant.  This is world-class HFC and offer the best internet connection speed to price value in NZ.

-  After the retirement of the Tbox platform, we will be "re-farming" the cable spectrum bandwidth used for Tbox and this will represent another significant boost to the HFC network performance.  This will occur once we've upgraded the last Tbox customer.  We are targeting having this programme completed by July.

Hamish. Thanks for your comments regarding my HFC concerns, they are much appreciated.

Anyone know roughly what price offer is being made for HFC T-Box customers with this current setup?

- HFC 50/2
- Phone line
- Best mates
- Sky 'Basic' (Starter + Entertainment in todays Sy plans)
- Sky Sport

$192.79 per month

My grandfather in Kapiti just got his letter, and we've been in the process of shopping around - but keen to hear some experiences before we call up to discuss options.

I know they say they will try and match as close as possible to the existing bill, but if it's the same as the cost above we'll shift.

For reference, the above setup (minus best mates) through a combo of VF for HFC Max (internet + phone) and SKY for TV (including MySky box) comes out at $171 per month.

I would prefer to get him on to Vodafone TV with Sky - but cannont see any pricing on the web for HFC + VFTV.

We have been on Cable since our place was build some 17 years ago and assumed that we would retain this system under the new setup.

Sky have just informed me that we will need a Dish installed on our roof. Can someone enlighten me please?

I was under the assumption (based on everything I have read), that VF would be upgrading existing T-Box customers (including SKY) to a Vodafone TV offering.

The letter my family member received, tells them to call Sky to arrange plans for TV with them. We also do not want to have to do a Sky install.

If you sign up through Vodafone you should be able to get "Vodafone TV with Sky" over your HFC (cable) connection

If you ask Sky directly for Sky you will get a dish

I think I have been given the wrong information but they surprised me.

The Vodafone bills are very confusing especially regarding GST and the use of discount amounts.

Does the $63 you have mentioned above include GST. ?

Thanks

Thanks. That is what I thought. It will be difficult to get to SKY again and confirm this.

Sky with Dish or Via Vodafone HFC Cable

I responded to the Vodafone letter, and Sky are going to send a Technician to install a Dish.

I have now learnt that I can continue to get SKY through Vodafone Cable. This has not been made clear and I am not sure what I should do about it.

Can someone who has been through this please give some advice.

I have not been in this situation but if I was I would immediately ring Sky, explain the situation and ask that the subscription with them needing a dish be cancelled. They will still receive money from the subscription through Vodafone.
