They don't say connection with emergency services to be fair -- emergencies come in all sizes and shapes and the satelite servce does offer many options not otherwise availiable. Deaf people can TXT 111 via the satellite service (AFAIK -- happy to be corrected if standard SMS can not be transported via satellite) so it is huge improvement over the Apple SOS service for me. But agree that direct emergency voice calls via satellite would be ideal. Maybe that is being worked on to ensure reliability as I'm sure One NZ wouldn't want to roll out that feature unless it's been tested throughly.

alasta: Anyone recreating in a remote area should have a PLB, or at least a Garmin Inreach or iPhone with the unrelated satellite SOS feature. One NZ are not providing a feasible alternative to this.

Absolutely, reading between the lines, this guy had no GPS nor comms after his phone went flat and ended up lost for 3 weeks. He would have been lost for just 3 hours if he had a Personal Locator Beacon.

That said, the number or search and rescues in the bush has dropped a lot as cell coverage has improved. This is because people are able to use their phone to "self rescue". Calling a friend, a helicopter, or simply getting re orientated so they can walk-out. This service, while not bullet-proof, will certainly help more people to self rescue which is win-win.

The Plan Add-on feels like the 4G addon they used to do all over again, for most users it's not worth it but also feels like a push to get more people onto their $85 unlimited plan.

Agreed. I just hope Spark/2degrees opens it up to all customers when they introduce their satellite service -- forcing One NZ to respond by doing the same (as they have done for 4G, 5G, etc). Fingers crossed but it does annoy me One NZ does the same thing every time they come out with something useful and only backs down when Spark/2degrees does the right thing.

Waiting patiently for Spark to go-live with a similar service shortly. Looks like the license was granted a few months back, so shouldn't be too far away one might hope.

Hi all, I picked up my S26 Ultra on Friday and went away for the weekend with limited to no cell coverage. My phone never once connected to Starlink (elligble plan). My Old S24 had no issues. Has anyone noticed an issue with either the phone or is it a provisioning issue with my account. My plan changed from 'Endless Plus' to 'One Plan' in the same week.

Hoping someone from OneNZ is able to assist with my issue please 😁

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

I have an iPhone 17 on One Plan and it was definitely working back in Jan on Great Barrier Island. Have you tried calling/messaging One NZ via the usual channels?

S26 isn't on the supported list yet, could of course just be a delay in updating the website

Yes, I wasn't aware of this list until yesterday! I was a little annoyed about that! Eligble plan, Check.... Satelite ready phone, Check... didn't realise there was a list hidden about 5 pages deep on the website.

However, I should be still getting text at the very least. I'm just getting nothing.

OneNZ are assisting with this... hopefully 😁

One NZ sells S26 phones as Satelite Ready on their own website, so even if it's not on a list I would expect it to be working.

Correct, But it's satelite ready for text only at this point... that isn't working either. I've been told to update my SIM card instore as its about 10 years old. It's hard to check if satelite is working without going for a long drive 😬

It's very deceptive in my opinion. Using customer eyes, it says the phone is satelite ready and my plan includes text and data.

@jasonparis The 'Satelite Ready' badge needs to be updated to clearly show 'Text Only' or 'Text & Data' depending on the phone.
