You may or may not be aware of the reach of Apple's control over every minute detail of a product such as the iPhone. So feel free to spread the love around Wink

Layton

If apple was that worried about people shipping them overseas then magnum mac wouldn't be selling them outright.

Magnum Mac are just a Vodafone retailer as far as the iPhone is concerned, so i'd assume Vodafone are dictating the same terms to them. I'd also assume they'd have their reseller status revoked for any violation of that.

But hey, maybe i'm assuming too much Wink

Satch:
V: Myself, I don't mind ordering online and waiting a couple of days for it to turn up. I would have liked to get my hands on one on launch day but the world isn't ending if I don't.

From some comments above I can see that some people may think that loyal VF customers are those on account. Which is simply not the case. I have been a loyal VF prepay customer since I was young. And to say that just because we aren't tied to a contract doesn't mean that we aren't loyal but I am aware that prepay customers do have more of an option to switch to other networks.

I disagree that VF won't sell iPhones w/o a plan on the shop floor during launch day but do respect VF for the reasons why and their final decision.

Ok, I'm going to try and make this my last post on the subject, as I'm now getting bored with it and am definitely getting no where...

Personally I didn't mean that only on account customers are loyal customers.  My reasoning is around why VF won't sell handsets outright instore to any VF customers who are simply upgrading their handsets and using them on the VF network.  I'd just rather not wait several more days to receive my new iPhone and have to pay courier costs to get it when I can practically walk across the road and pick one up on Friday.

Iduncan - you'll find that both Magnum Mac and PlayTech will also have the iPhone 3GS for sale on Friday.  And they are able to sell it outright as an instore purchase.

Sorry, I wasn't meaning to directly target you. But yes, I would rather go pick one up instead now having to wait a few days.

Just looking at pricing plans on Vodafone site, what is stopping someone going in and signing up for the $40
a month getting iPhone for $899 and cancelling next day for $350 cancel fee and effectively only paying $1249 for it and getting around the only buy online thing?

HNGeeko, this thread is full of that. VFNZ confirmed that there would be a further fee charged if you did this walk around and thus making it inviable.

They haven't Stated a Further Fee Charge on their website if it is not stated when signing a contract they couldn't put it in after?

I couldn't see mention of an extra fee, did they give any indication of how much? Just bringing it up to normal retail rrp.

Just want to get hold of one

On playtechs iPhone 3G Ss product pages it says 'Must have an existing On Account iPhone Plan with an iPhone handset'.

http://www.playtech.co.nz/product.php?action=showdetail&id=7740

What's the deal with that?

Is it certain that magnum mac are actually selling just the handsets with no strings attached?

MisterChief, yeah, unless the store clerks lied to many a customer.

They gave specifics on the amount of stock and definitely put my name down for an available 32GB black.

Paul Bristen said that for the free upgrade to 3GB of data and 1000 PXT you had to upgrade to the iPhone OS 3.0, I originally saw this in the NBR and thought it simply bad reporting as you only needed to upgrade to 3.0 to support PXT, but Paul repeated this tonight.

Does anyone know if you need to go to 3.0 to have 3GB of extra data for free? Is there a technical reason, or new feature in the iPhone they need to support this? Just curious :)

This is what I said it a previous post:

V: I said I also was interested in this idea earlier in the thread But I asked VodafoneNZ on twitter about the chance of a subsidy penalty:

@VodafoneNZ Is there a subsidy penalty if you break from your contract within the first 3 months?

@targetlocated yes there is.

Not sure what the penalty is, or where it states there is a penalty.

I replied with:

@VodafoneNZ Is there a page on the website where it shows the penalties?

But they seemed to have missed it when replying to everyone else.

Note sure if this is for the old plan or the new one, the page doesn't say and it was refered to about 10 pages back but people said the link was broken but it's working now

Other early termination charges

iPhone 1GB
0-6 Months $1050
6-12 Months $910
+12 Months $450

If your needs have changed and you want to end your plan, we'll do everything we can to help - but there may be fees.  The size of the fee depends on how early you're cancelling.

From http://vodafonenz.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/vodafonenz.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=6566

Very interestingly, if you walk up the numbers on the end of the URL, the next 3 are other iPhone charges for moving plans, or resigning early, then a error like it's the highest number/invalid so it looks like these were the last FAQ's added on the Vodafone NZ site...

If these charges are correct, I would suspect they were added after Vodafone built the main iPhone pricing site.
