SteveC: Can record or restart NewsHub 6:00pm (& Project)! No 3 day on either, ...

LOL - I looked at that sentence again before replying to you @dklong, and should have reworded it. The sentence is badly structured, but is correct. I find it pretty strange that record and restart are available, but no 3 day catchup (3 hour catchup would be enough!).

Just in case you are interested, we have a laptop with a couple of USB tuners connected to our UHF aerial. It is dedicated to running https://www.mythtv.org/ We use that to record anything (mainly movies) that we can't record on VTV or watch on demand.

I can watch TV in the library/office on computer using a DishTV satellite receiver .... handy when SWMBO is watching something else on the big TV in the lounge 😁.  It can also record any channel at any time etc etc, which is handy when out of the house .... recordings are then transferred to my NAS, so then viewable on the big TV via networked media player.

Interesting! We have one of these: https://www.dishtv.co.nz/Refurbished?product_id=142 too. Only use it to record One News each day then watch it when we go to bed. Never tried watching recordings on another device - assumed they would be encrypted! Must give it a whirl.

The DishTV T2100 (on the same UHF aerial) does weird things on regular occasions. Fine for about 80% of the time. Very strange. MythTV is trickier to set up and occasionally needs a reboot, but has an very comprehensive UI compared to any of the other options.
We regard VTV as the most consistent and easy to use of the three.

Mine is the S707rHD unit connected to an unused Sky satellite dish ... records to an external USB flash drive and is NOT encrypted.

Thanks @SteveC. Knowing the answer I can see what the sentence was saying now! :-)

Re MythTV etc.... I've been recording OTA Freeview for ages with various solutions with obviously very few 'weird' restrictions on what could be recorded! The idea of a cloud DVR through a simple interface is certainly appealing and I'm also looking at solutions that I can recommend to friends/family as they cut the cord from their MySky box that mainly gets used to record Freeview anyway.  If I can still record TV3 News nightly and watch while recording then its as good as other DVR solutions. I just think for that sort of thing the 3 Day rewatch is a better option!

I guess I'll see what things I "can't" record and that will decide whether it fits the bill as a replacement.

Cheers

Why would our VTV take 1min10sec to switch from TV to Netflix and the same time again to go back to TV. Blank screen during the switch. Switching to TVOne demand is fine.

Any hints appreciated.

Which ISP are you with?

Did you make changes to the DNS at all on your router?

Is it something that has always happened?

This is a new unit, has done it since new. Slingshot is the internet provider and no changes there. I have made no changes to the router, standard setup.

There is no issue once it is up and running.

If not already done, update the VTV firmware to see if it helps.

If possible, can you take the unit to a friends house who are on a different ISP and test it there?

What does the Fast.com Application say for your internet speed, and is the VTV Set Top Box on Ethernet or Wi-Fi? Are you on Fibre?

If it is on Wi-Fi I suggest trying Ethernet.

Should be fine..

I have tested here (Logged in, then exited the app.. power-cycled and relaunched the app).

I am taken to the 'who's watching netflix' screen after approx 5 seconds.  So the delay may be due to your ISP.
