Not a bad idea. I was planning on stopping by the store at midnight anyways, just to see how many people line up.

I just can not see the reasoning for such prices, no one in their right mind would consider a $250 per month plan (Remember i said in their right mind!) Disapointed as was intending to palm my N95 to the other half and get the Iphone, but thats a no go now..

Where is this "analyst" living? There are plans of $49/month for 1 GB - on Vodafone! Charging $250 for the same GB is outrageous.

Does the $49/1GB plan include 600 minutes, 600 TXTs, and a $780 hardware subsidy?

Comments are my own, don't blame my employer...

That's a brilliant "flash-mob'-esque idea. If I was in a main centre I'd be there!

Does that $49 / month include 600 minutes and 600 texts per month? On YouChoose, a 600 minute + 600 text plan comes out at $237.90 per month. That is without the 1GB data, so it seems comparable to me. Please let us know if you can find a comparable plan for cheaper in NZ.

Yeh my plan is to turn up and get the freebies+food etc and then tell them i dont wanna buy one as its too expensive when they go on sale

Have you seen the price of firewood and LPG? It's probably because it's cheaper to use the artificial warmth of beer and seven Pentiums than it is to light the fire ;)

Well, I can't say I'm surprised out this, and I in fact predicted that $199 would be the most expensive plan. We may as well get over it, Vodafone is as bollocks as Telecom ever was (and weirdly enough, I get better service and pricing from Telecom than Vodafone would even consider. Go figure!)

Err - using fire is a bit 18th Century, don't you think?! Try heatpumps and double glazing!

Now that is a brilliant idea! If it wasn't a 200 km round trip to the nearest store that will be open at midnight (now costing $8 billion in fuel!) I would do that for sure!

Heat pumps? Thanks, but the power bill is bad enough now. I don't want to add a few more thousand to it (damn you Mercury!)

And I can't double glaze someone else's house, even if I did happen to have a few thousand spare dollars one week (which I don't, ever) to do so.

I'm in for the "flash-mob" idea!

- Go in the store;
- Get their staff to show you all the options to buy it and etc;
- Say "it's too expensive, no thanks" and walk out;

This is raw economics, supply and demand stuff...
While there is to much demand, and limited supply, the price can be set high...its just that simple.

It would be that simple in a competitive market. In a non-competitive market like this they charge what the market will bear - i.e. overly-inflated prices. It'll be interesting to see if these prices are indeed what the market will bear. (Sounds like it won't be amongst GZers!)

Can anyone tell me if they know hwo the pre-pay blocking will work?

I mean, if I had a prepay SIM that's 2 years or so old, the SIM itself won't be blocked from use in the iPhone unless the iPhone is porgrammed to block prepay SIMs, right?

I saw something mentioned about sub-SIM blocking, can someone explain what that is?
