Ugh, just got my letter.

Am I correct in my understanding that the current modem does not support the good old Bridge Mode that my faithfull old Surfboard SB5101 is?  And I'm going to lose my long, long, LONG, held static IP?

Sigh.  My needs are so simple (100G/month, 10Mbps is fine for all I need), if I'm going to have all this ruction, restructuring network, losing IP, scheduling tech visit, not the least of which having to beat a path to the modem through the hoarding problem boxes of stock then maybe I should just go with a wireless plan.

I think you are confused with the All In One technicolor modem they used a few years back. The one they use now is just a modem and functions similar to the SB5101.

So, it’s a standalone modem, and they also supply a Vodafone Ultra Hub router, but you don’t have to use it. You can connect your own router directly to the modem (use DHCP/IPoE as your WAN type and apply VLAN 10 tag)

You do need to use the Ultra Hub however if you want to use the Vodafone Landline service (VoIP)

You will lose your static IP, you may be able to get another one but I think it’s a monthly fee.

Yeah I'm unashamedly behind the times, that's the one I was thinking of, thanks for the correction.

Unfortunately my router is as old fashioned as I am so doesn't support the IPoE VLAN stuff, so that's not much help.

Got my grandfathers upgrade offer done, but not a smooth venture at all.

Letter could be clearer, really pushes the recipient to contact SKY about the TV services which royaly confused him.

Also calling the 0800 number in the letter resulted in speaking to two VF agents who both kept pushing him to talk to SKY to sort the TV side of things (despite asking for Vodafone TV) and that this was the only option. Third call and agent finally knew what the hell was going on.

On the plus side, he's now saving $30~ per month and getting faster internet. We'll see how he likes the Vodafone TV box (haven't brought up the potential recording restrictions yet), but I think think it is the best all in one option on the market right now.

anyone else had issues calling the 0800 122 590 number from the letter.   I've tried a couple times, get to listen to music and then the call terminates on me :-(   Bloody annoying when I just want to sort when they will be attacking the house etc...  Anyone else had issues, or maybe its just me

I agree. It is a badly written letter.

I just called and was speaking to the team after just over a 1 min wait.  The team are based in Ellerslie, Auckland and are ready awaiting your call.

I just managed to get a connection, was going well, til the call terminated on me (don't know if my line or something else), BUT chap I was talking with, had my account number, and called me back, so now I'm all sorted for getting changed over and dropping the landline :-)   Just need the Downer people to call and book us in :-).

What I have found, there is a lot of focus on Switching to Sky (as per many other comments), but the thing is to say you are opting out of Sky and just want to have the Freeview stuff via VTV.  That seemed to get the conversation moving the right direction for me.

I also received feedback that the calls to the 0800 number were disconnected a couple of times mid conversation.

An update for those interested:

  • Upgrade offer was confirmed by phone on the 6/04, told a confirmation email would be sent
  • Confirmation email arrives on 8/04, but only for a phone upgrade. No mention of TV services
  • After multiple tries and disconnections, finally gets through on the 0800 number where VF admit they stuffed up. Team promises to send corrected upgrade offer email.
  • Downers end up calling trying to book a time for a phone upgrade, had not been told about VTV. Downers say they will contact VF.
  • As of 13/04 still no confirmation email from VF about the agreed upgrade plan

Good to see VF haven't forgotten their roots during this change. Maybe we should have just ditched them.

I wonder if someone from Vodafone would be kind enough to reply and tell me exactly what will happen when my T-Box is removed this April.  Will it be replaced with a free VTV unit as talked about on this Forum, or will it just be removed?

The letter I received gives a site (vodafone.co.nz/TVSwap) to visit but that seems to indicate I need to join Sky when the T-Box is removed.  The letter also gives a 0800 number to call if I have any questions - I called this number on March 29th and left my name and number. I again called the 0800 number on the 30th and left my details again later that day I received a reply and was told that someone from VF would call me the next day at 10am. Never received any message from VF so today 13/4 I rang the 0800 number again and after listening to a recorded message I was cut off, after a while I rang again received the recorded message and again was cut off. Starting to get the feeling someone at Vodafone doesn’t like me😀

So as an old man, who at this stage is getting slightly confused I would like to know what I can expect to happen when the technician calls to remove the T-Box?

@sansom

Can also confirm (via my Grandfather) that the 0800 122 590 number from the letter is constantly disconnecting today and cannot get through. This is from a VF copper landline out of Kapiti.

Incredibly frustrating experience, have had no email comms or confirmation from the VF team.

@profrink, apologies, we have found and fixed this intermittent issue which seemed affect some callers worse than others.
