exportgoldman:
V: I said I also was interested in this idea earlier in the thread But I asked VodafoneNZ on twitter about the chance of a subsidy penalty:
@VodafoneNZ Is there a subsidy penalty if you break from your contract within the first 3 months?
@targetlocated yes there is.
Not sure what the penalty is, or where it states there is a penalty.

Note sure if this is for the old plan or the new one, the page doesn't say and it was refered to about 10 pages back but people said the link was broken but it's working now

Other early termination charges

iPhone 1GB
0-6 Months $1050
6-12 Months $910
+12 Months $450

If your needs have changed and you want to end your plan, we'll do everything we can to help - but there may be fees.  The size of the fee depends on how early you're cancelling.

I can only assume those are the fees for people on an iPhone 250 plan, which came with 1GB of data.

maknz: MisterChief, yeah, unless the store clerks lied to many a customer.

Lied? It's dangerous to assume malice when ignorance is a perfectly rational alternate explanation.

I think these are really old pages that Vodafone have not updated since the first iPhone 3G plans back in the day.

Oh and by the way guys - if you get the new iPhone one idea might be to charge it overnight (using the plug in wall cable) as there may be a chance that this may solve the short iPhone battery lasting problems we have all been hearing about. Remember the days when we used to get new phones and it said to always charge them overnight on it's first charge so the battery knows what it's highest capacity is?
I don't think the battery technology has changed since then? I know I will be doing this as I think it will probably be worth it in the long run.
Maybe us NZ'ers will be the ones that have the longest lasting iPhones in the world :P

It seems it is well established now that plans are here to stay, Vodafone is not offering an upgrade option, you have to have a plan to buy outright from stores, you can still buy online if you want a "contract free" iPhone.

Seeing that this is no longer being a "price" discussion and it's a bit offtopic I am locking this discussion. Feel free to open another one for specific points of this discussion.
