if they have sorted there 0800 issues, then suggest giving it a call re your situation, and when they mention Sky, nope not doing that, just want to switch to freeview channels via VTV.   That made my conversation go much better with the rep.      Just awaiting switchover day on Friday, to see the outcome

@profrink, apologies, we have found and fixed this intermittent issue which seemed affect some callers worse than others.

Hamish,

Could you tell me what will happen when my T-Box is removed this April.  Will it be replaced with a free VTV unit as talked about on this Forum, or will it just be removed?

Would a appreciate a reply please.

Clearly it is replaced with a VTV

I wonder if someone from Vodafone would be kind enough to reply and tell me exactly what will happen when my T-Box is removed this April.  Will it be replaced with a free VTV unit as talked about on this Forum, or will it just be removed?

The letter I received gives a site (vodafone.co.nz/TVSwap) to visit but that seems to indicate I need to join Sky when the T-Box is removed.  The letter also gives a 0800 number to call if I have any questions - I called this number on March 29th and left my name and number. I again called the 0800 number on the 30th and left my details again later that day I received a reply and was told that someone from VF would call me the next day at 10am. Never received any message from VF so today 13/4 I rang the 0800 number again and after listening to a recorded message I was cut off, after a while I rang again received the recorded message and again was cut off. Starting to get the feeling someone at Vodafone doesn’t like me😀

So as an old man, who at this stage is getting slightly confused I would like to know what I can expect to happen when the technician calls to remove the T-Box?

Hi @Iceni,

Firstly, apologies about your experience trying to get in touch with our contact centre in Ellerslie.  The intermittent cutting off issue should now be fixed.

In terms of the process, we have been developing and just launched a new direct offer to Tbox owners in conjunction with Sky.  Based on the feedback from Tbox customers (and this forum) regarding VTV cloud recording, and VTV user interface vs what they were used to on Tbox, we are now offering Sky's MySky box in the first instance.

The new process with Sky is:

  1. After receiving our letter, Sky will call (or you can call Sky directly) to discuss your current Tbox services and pricing. Sky will offer an upgrade deal that includes your existing Sky packages, a new MySky box and installation.  If you're happy with this, they will then book a date/time for a Sky tech to visit to install the replacement MySky box.  If you’re a Freeview-only customer then the Sky offer might not suit you, so feel free to contact us (or me via geekzone PM) for alternative Freeview options.
  2. Sky informs Vodafone of the installations that have been booked with Tbox customers via a daily data feed.  For customers who also have broadband over HFC, Vodafone then arranges for Downer to book one of their techs to visit at the same time or alternative time shortly after the Sky tech visit.  Downer manage their visit and any date/time changes with the customer directly.
  3. Sky then install the MySky box on the day arranged, leaving the both MySky and Tbox connected and working.
  4. Then, for HFC broadband/landline customers and after Sky have done their work, Downer removes the Tbox, caps off the TV tails and, if required, upgrades the Broadband modem to Ultrafast HFC DOCSIS 3.1 and unlimited broadband plan and supplies integrated wiring for any landline service.
  5. for Tbox TV-only customers with no broadband or landline, we're still finalising with Sky the process for removing and recycling the Tbox.

Early testing of the new offer from Sky is very positive and we now plan to use this going forward.  Both the new Vodafone process and the Sky offer will be communicated direct with the Tbox customer but feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions regarding this.

OMG @Sansom..  ###, is this the beginning of the end of the VTV box.  Talk about changing horses mid-flight.  Have faith in your product or decide not to be in the market which is obviously what is happening in Voda...

@sansom As of this morning after waiting for a new SLAM since Feb, I’m finally booked in on Wednesday with Downers for my Tbox upgrade which I understood would be HFC broadband, landline plus a VTV box that includes Sky. Nick has kindly been assisting and arranging among other things porting of the phone next week.

With this new announcement, I have no idea what to do now, am thoroughly confused and would like someone to talk me through what I need to do and the options. Thanks.

For users with Sky TV deals this is probably a win-win. The biggest problem with losing the T-Box was losing the ability to record some programs.

I applaud Vodafone for recognising that this has been a big issue for their customers. If this works out with higher levels of customer satisfaction then they will have done what we so often expect them to do.

I am in the process of getting the VTV to replace my TBox. As I am on Cable I presume I will need to get a Dish if not continuing with SKY package via Vodafone.

How does the VTV box compare with the MYSky box. What are the advantages of MYSky. Do I need the WiFi of the VTV box or does MYSky have WiFi.

Can someone give this old fellow some advice please.

Oh dear. What does this mean, I wonder, for us?

We've done the deal and - after multiple VF/Downer cock-ups - were finally on track to have VF arrange Downer to do a T-Box and DOCIS swap on 4 May.

Does this now mean I have to re-negotiate the negotiation? Will there be another round of cock-ups, this time VF/Downer AND SKY? Does this mean having to be home on TWO days for TWO different techs? Can this get any worse?

Y'know, I can agree that MySky is a better option for those who are very used to T-Box, stuck in their ways and don't like change.

Perhaps people could be given a choice?

Sky:

  • Requires a dish to be installed
  • Works very similar to TBox
  • Record every single show

Vodafone TV

  • Works over internet
  • Record most shows
  • Catch up on most shows even if you forgot to record them
  • Access to smart TV apps (YouTube, Netflix, TVNZ, Amazon Prime, NEON)

I love Vodafone TV and hope it has many years of life left. There's no other option that combines Freeview, Sky, Recording, Catchup and apps quite this well.

I have the same questions as others. What does it mean for those of us who are already booked in for the changeover. I suspect the Downer visit will need to be postponed now until someone clearly tells us what to do. Will we be billed directly from Sky? If so then the VF portion will need to be renegotiated. It’s all very vague.

Will the My Sky box be free for VF customers, as presently it’s $15

I rang Sky to see if they might know what was required. Eventually after trying to explain, I read @sansom post from GZ to the chap that didn’t have a clue about this. He asked his support and found that there is a special team dedicated to the Vodafone migration...but it was late and I couldn’t get through so left my number.

The dedicated Sky number for VF migrations is 0800 243 875 lots of luck.

I disagree with the above two points for freeview content. TVNZ no longer allows three day catch up for all their content like when Vodafone TV launched.

The rights issue has got worse since VF TV launch.

For Sky content I agree with the points, so would be suitable for someone who wants to record little freeview and just  interested in Sky Stuff.

I don't blame anyone for not liking a change, where they can't do something they could do before.

It sounds like to me Vodafone is doing right by their customers in making MySky an option, which will probably suit most with some Sky packages. The freeview only customers will probably be stuck with the VF TV unless they're ok with paying Sky start up.

Excellent question Eva! We have two T-Boxes and paid up-front for them so, technically (and I believe legally), any swap should be on the same basis. I understand that's currently the case, so I should be able to either get two VFTVs at no cost (just pay for content) OR two SKY boxes at no cost (and just pay for content).

...Or, rather than go through the very convoluted process as outlined above by sansom and which sounds fraught with possibilities of major stuff ups, we keep it simple and go ahead with the original plan get the VTV box and HFC installed and decide later if we love or hate it. He did state earlier on in one of the posts that we get to keep the box if we opt out later which I thought that was quite generous.

Sky will still be there if we ever need to split from VF and for the sake of sanity and less stress (unless I get a Godfather offer that can’t be refused)...I will stick with the original plan.
