I think people should stop panicking over this, even if the product is phazed out there probably will be a replacement option involving Skys new device.

No announcement from Vodafone as their hands are probably tied to whenever Sky is ready to move things forward

It has been mentioned Sky will offer their device for outright purchase, this seems like a swap could happen for existing owners of vodatv units.

If this happened it might be a good thing - the new Sky box will likely work better, be less flakey and get better support than VTV - that wouldn't be hard.

Vodafone NZ migrated 30K users to Sky (according to Sky's annual report) not the VodaTV box. Current Freeview streams are provided by Sky not Freeview.

Since when did the Voda TV 1st gen have any inbuilt tuners? - this is incorrect. I think you've been looking at the Australian VodaTV box specs. A totally pointless exercise as no inbuilt storage to record anyway.

Vodafone migrated most of their Tbox users to Vodafone TV first. It was the feedback of customers wanting the ability to fully control their DVRs and not depend on an internet connection which most didn't have an unlimited data plan at that time. That's why Vodafone made the compromise to switch them to Sky instead but that was a handful.

Not sure what you're tryna say about the Freeview streams being run by Sky or Freeview, but what I'm saying is that in the era of post-EOL, should Vodafone TV allow its current users to keep their devices, they might just be limited to Freeview channels. However, because the rumour was Vodafone not replenishing its funds for the TV platform anymore, who then runs the cost to host the Freeview streams? Sky certainly provides the content to Vodafone, but Sky isn't funding the upkeep of servers at Vodafone to run Vodafone TV.

AND YES, I'm an user of the first gen Vodafone TV in NZ and it had an antenna coaxial connection which was not in use at all.

The users shown as migrated to SKY will be those users who Vodafone was acting as a reseller for, ie people were using a sky box but being billed by Vodafone - the reseller arrangement was terminated.

Personal view is no show of the box being useful if its EoL given the server infrastructure that supports it. Hopefully they wait until SkyTV has their new android box which means we should as a minimum get the same functionality as now, and I believe as a bonus it will have internal storage which will deal with those archaic rights management arrangements which said "recording" could only be done on a local device, and that cloud storage did not meet the criteria - the one negative of the VTV system whereby not everything was recordable / watchable on catch-up.

Panicking is not the right word. After giving Vodafone money for this their silence over the matter is a slap in the face to their customers. Their excuse of "supply issues" does not hold water. Vodafone needs to be upfront with its customers, however I don't believe they give a toss about the VTV customers as I believe they will exit the provision of TV services completely.

Sky will have to do streams of the freeview channels  as part of whatever service they will be offering. Not sure if the vodatv units can support the irdeto c.a. It could be the reason for them dropping them?

Here is a headline some may have missed

Sky New Zealand selects Irdeto as security partner

Next generation of Android boxes will be protected by Irdeto’s Cloaked CA, the most advanced cardless system in the world, and award-winning Irdeto App Watch:"

If it was easy, someone else would have done it by now! (Or Vodafone would have done it better.)

Perhaps it all goes back to the T-Box. Vodafone NZ might have considered it a risk or missed opportunity to ditch TV altogether, but needed to ditch analouge, and swapping units with dead hard disks can't have been cheap.
Back in the Day, particularly after the buyout of Vodafone NZ, @sansom was telling us that VTV was backed by Vodafone International technology.

I meant it wouldn't be hard to give better support than VF gave (not gives) VTV - and yep VF should have done it better.

That's certainly true. Ever since @sansom was moved to another product, support has been minimalist at best.
I'm trying to picture a virtual limbo - currently VTV support is worse than Vodafone Broadband support, which is impressive bit of metaphorical physics!
Anyone tried emailing jason.paris@vodafone.co.nz to ask about VTV? That works for broadband!

@Apsattv I don't believe this has anything to do with what Sky TV will or will not be offering. My gut feeling is that Vodafone NZ is going to exit the TV business in Aotearoa. When the end  comes they will work a deal with say Dish TV to throw their long suffering customers a morsel in the form of an Android TV dongle that they will pay Dish TV $50 per unit and say a digital middle finger and bye bye.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I notice that the VFTV device is still advertised prominently on their web site, and it is only three layers deeper that one gets to the Buy Now button, and alongside that in small lettering is "Out of stock" even though the $179 cost is still displayed.

Must say that I have been a very happy and satisfied VF customer for a number of years, but this sort of thing does leave a little sour taste ... particularly since I have three VFTV units in play (2 free and 1 paid retail), as well as having recommended it to numerous others.
