It's great hearing how you can download at 30kBps. However, I can't stream 128k radio for more than a minute without buffering.

Sure but the 256kbps plan capable of 32KB/s download is much cheaper! So how is being on FS an advantage.

256k plan = $70.55 /mth
FS/FS plan = $69.95 /mth

Hmm, a lot more (non peak) speed, and features for 60c less per month.

OK, so this example is 256k + land-line vs Fusion, but makes a great point.

I think one of the reasons for peak slowdown, is that more & more connections are moving to ADSL2 & FS/FS; so the majority of potential user speeds have increased. More speed = faster bandwidth consumption = less bandwidth for everyone. I think WxC will have more bandwidth on stream at some stage, but I don't think it is a simple case of flicking a switch and its on. There is likely quite a long lead time to have more broadband come online, and perhaps there is a platform upgrade required too?

The answers will come all in good time I'm sure.

From what I've read, Xnet hasn't enabled ADSL2 profile at their end, even those that sync at ADSL2+ are still limited to ADSL1 speeds.

Yes, true. But many speeds that were say 4-5Mbps, may now be syncing at 7-8Mbps. So although ADSL2 (speeds) may not be enabled, overall sync speeds will have increased. Also, people moving from FS/128 to FS/FS will have an increase from approx 3.5Mbps (restricted by 128k up), to anything up to 7-8Mbps.

Basic Telecom land-line with no features = $43.60 per month
Basic 256k Xnet ADSL = 26.95 per month
Total = $70.55 /mth

Fusion (FS/FS ADSL + highly featured VoIP line) = $69.95 per month.

Simple maths :)

NB: excludes data of course, but that's relative.

Just ran a couple of Speedtests, and was shocked at how bad the problem was. First off here's the speedtest to the Auckland server:

Then here is the speedtest run a few seconds later to LA:

Just a slight difference, then.

you guys are over exagerating the problem so much.

The speeds are slower than normal, but they are not *that* bad. I can stream youtube (and break) videos fine, so long as I give them 5 seconds to buffer at the start - wow, I had to wait a whole five seconds longer.

I was downloading the trial version of powerdvd 8 the other day, and it was only going at 30KB/s. Sure thats a little bit frustrating, but its still heaps better than dial up.

Thats nice, your one of the lucky few who can actually stream youtube. For the rest of us, we have to wait over 5 MINUTES for a 1 minute video.
Don't say we are over exagerating when you are one of the lucky few who can actually use there connection.

I've been incontact with xNet and have got a refund, I suggest the rest of you do as well.

~$80/mth for 2GB@100-200k peak, 4Mbps off peak (Xnet)

Today I sent off my application for a new connection with Xnet Fusion. I've gone with them simply because there is no minimum term.

If I'm one of the unlucky ones to also get the international slowdown, how long would it be worth sticking with them before changing to another provider, or is that too much of a speculative question?

Would anyone know what percentage of users are actually experiencing this issue?

These are few comments form my wife for the past few days...

International speed Issue... it has come to this now... Can't make two RDP/Ctrix session to my office and my wife's work at the same time, offices are not in LA... but in Auckland. I have to disconnect mine in order for her to work!

I know the difference because I have FUSION and TCNZ Pro broadband.

oh your line may be faulty... oh your modem settings.... oh you filter... Get a life WXC

I'M ABSOLUTELY DISAPOINTED WITH WXC's FUSION SERVICES.

I'm not after the refund I'm after my ported numbers back to TCNZ, as I always said GRASS IS NOT GREEN HERE.

I was thinking of changing to other ISp but am very happy about their service so I'll stay and see what happens
