Any idea on what is happening to the Clear side of things. I assume details will be at a date yet to be confirmed, but am interested in knowing if the telstraclear account will be merged with a Vodafone a/c if one is already signed up, or if the clear.net.nz email addresses will continue or get merged.

Good question. I know the current wisdom is not to have your e-mail via your ISP, but I still use my paradise.net.nz e-mail for some sites.  While it is possible to change, it is a hassle and one most of us would rather avoid having to do.

In regards to the email addresses, Vodafone have the rights for these as well and so any changes are currently unconfirmed. I am sure you will have plenty of advance time and warning if and when they ever do decide to shut down any of those servers.

But for now and hopefully a long time, it's all go :)

Cheers, Josh

Hopefully this merger is handled better than the merger when TCL came into existence in 2001...

Possibly being a doom and gloom merchant but I'm not expecting good things.

Vodafone are not known for well priced/well performing broadband performance or great customer service (johnR excepted).

I'd be happy to be proved wrong, but we'll see.

Yeah it's an interesting time. We signed up for the $75 a month deal back when no other major players were offering this. Now we're waiting for our 1 year term to expire so I can move the heck away from this company. I was considering going back to Vodafone, who at the time were excellent, just a bit more pricey was all. Now I'd be going 'back' to the same company I now with?! Hello Telecom perhaps?

I agree, lock the TelstraClear forum but perhaps create a new forum for Vodafone Cable or Vodafone TV to represent the "fixed line" business as being separate from their mobile/general DSL business.

I don't know whether it should be Digital Entertainment (like Sky) or New Zealand Telecommunications as it's kind of both!  But I guess they will also merge at some point.

As long as I don't have to change my email address or any DNS/IP settings 1st April (or whenever TC disappears), and I get the current service I'm signed up for, I'm happy.

But later down the road, will be there be a change from .clear.net.nz to vodafone.net.nz? What happens if email names exist on both, to two different users? Also, will any emails directed to clear.net.nz automatically forward, for a period of time, to the new address?

Ha, I'm quite the opposite.  I don't use an ISP's email and personally would be extremely keen to change my DNS/IP settings from Telstra to Vodafone.  That way facebook might load completely during peak times and youtube might stand a chance of buffering faster than it plays ~ like it used to on Vodafone...

I've had no issues with Facebook, like I use to, for a few weeks now. No DNS servers have I changed in my router. YouTube loads just fine for me.

Vodafone still have ihug and earlier email addresses remaining in use so I'd be surprised to see any TelstraClear ones close.
