My question about the firewall is directly related to sbidlee's question. If your router is responding to DNS requests coming from outside then it can be used for a DDoS attack - using huge amounts of data.

I have found somthing called "Security Level"  It has options "Guest mode or authorisation mode"  The Guest mode is ticked, should I change that?

Sounds like you are providing free internet to all your neighbours.

If guest mode is ticket but with no password then your WiFi is open to anyone. "Guest Mode" is usually a setting to allow people to use your network without seeing your computers. If there's no password it isn't safe.

Untick that now.

I dunno if there's a general netcomm problem or it's just co-incidence.

If you can log a fault with our support team our faulting team can check what your bandwidth is being used for and what time of day it is being used (breakdown of traffic in 30 minute increments). This won't solve the issue, but may help you figure out where/when it's coming from. Multiple sessions because of the same username being used on two different connections is also a potential culprit, but that is usually fairly easy to spot and correct.

Just also wanted to mention for everyone else watching here that other than the occasional system issue which affects everyone or a DDoS attack as Mauricio mentioned earlier, it is extremely rare for our bandwidth reports to be incorrect. In my 3 years here I have only seen it happen once, and that was because of a weird bug with the customer's setup.

Cheers,
Lon
