I think you will find most places will quote 10-15 working days, ie 2 -3 weeks.

It may seem like a long time but there is almost always around a weeks worth of shipping there, depending on who you deal with and how far away it is.

Ambrose_1:

Industry norm or just this shop norm? I suppose its the same thing.

Same thing, but in MFRs case it may be longer, as stated by the poster above.

God thats frustrating, only had the phone 2 weeks and now its been gone longer than I've owned it. After spending $700 of my hard earn dollars I find it very frustrating for it to be away for so long while I have to use my barely working old cellphone.

You could try asking the retailer what the ELF (Early Life Failure) preiod is, I know for Nokia it's 14 days and in that case, replacing the phone is an option open to the retailer, not sure what this time period is for SE products.

Thanks for that suggestion. I will have to try that, probably next week since nothing going to happen on friday or weekend. What does the ELF mean? I googled it but all i could find is on the vodafone aussie site, said sony ericsson was 30 days.

GSM dealers work with an OBF (Out of Box Failure) period.

SonyEricsson is 14 days from date of purchase and must have NO physical or liquid damage.

You could also have read my reply as well for advice ;)

Call Sony Ericsson, have the MFR job number handy, if you don't have that, have the imei of your phone and ask them politely if there is anything they can do to speed MFR up or use one of their other repair agents (They had a second one, forget who now, they should still be using it)

Part of it will also depend on how long Bond and Bond had it before sending the phone off, while MFR can be slow as a wet donkey, there's alot of dealers out there as well that suck for sitting on phones and saying it's the repair agent.

Sony Ericsson has a local 0800 number and support desk, look em up on the Sony Ericsson site :)

exportgoldman:

If you are in Auckland, there is a shop on K Road which do phone repairs same day, had mostly good experience with them.

Any hints as to who it is on K'Rd?

I was about to call MFR, but would rather give these guys a go!

ELF = Early Life Failure
OBF = Out of Box Failure
DOA = Dead on Arrival

Hope this helps

Thanks guys. I think I might try going to bond and bond and asking for a replacement phone, does anyone know what the OBF or the ELF is on a sony ericsson phone is in NZ? if I go to them I want to know what I'm talking about.

I think I will ring SE as well.

Knowing all too well how this works (don't ask, I've had to regularly deal with MFR for over a year), this sort of wait can be for a number of reasons.  Usually it's sheer processing time, but contact them and get the following information:

1. Book-in date.  This will help you establish when they received the phone and if Bond and Bond screwed up.
2. What the current status of the job is.  This will let you know if there's a part wait or similar (unlikely).

The manufacturers can't do a whole heap of stuff but normally you get your phone back within 10 working days.  Sony Ericsson's number is 0800 100 150.

I only have a repair number from bond and bond, which I suppose means nothing on MFR's system. Nothing to reference my phone really.

Bond and Bond should have got you to sign some paper work from MFR, which will have the job number on it. Then you will be able to quote the reference to MFR, on 0508 REPAIR.

Any repair with MFR needs the persons:
Cellphone number
IMEI number (on the box of the cellphone when you bought it)
Name and address details

MFR should be able to find your phone based on this information.
