NikT: There's only two cable modems available - the Motorola Surfboard SB5101 & the Cisco DPC3008. The latter is the DOCSIS3.0/WarpSpeed 130Mbps hardware, and is installed for free if you upgrade to a 130Mbps plan.

Or did you mean a wireless router? :)

Yeah was referring to a wireless router as I assume that's what the webpage is referring to (I figure that giving you cable without the cable modem wouldn't get you very far :D )

Your reply actually answered one of my questions about whether the new cable modem was required for the 50Mbps plan. But judging by your response I'm assuming that my ye olde Motorola will do the trick for that (and hence shouldn't require a technician to visit to upgrade from the old TCL Plan)

I too was on an old TCL Cable plan (out of contract but on the old rates) then we had to move out for earthquake repairs, it was going to be cheaper for me to cancel the existing service than it was to move out then move back in. The sales team at VF were totally unhelpful, offered no incentive for me to re-join or re-connect when we had to move back in.

Instead of paying $55 for 30GB the plans had changed to $75 for 30 or 80GB. Not what I wanted at all, plus a connection fee if I didn't want to sign on for 2 years.

SNAP VDSL

I was also on 2Talk, but now have switched to SNAP with Phone and free national calling, and I couldn't be happier.

I believe you will need the DPC3008 for the 50Mbps plans, DOCSIS 2.0 only goes up to 40ish Mbps from memory - the SB5101 was all good for the original 25Mbps WarpSpeed plan.

Hey crazed, make sure you talk with the TelstraClear retention / sales team, they're different from your ordinary VF customer service staff. They should be able to help you out.

Hey folks,

Good news - Work is being done to ensure all customers currently on the $75 and Get More promotions have the end dates removed to make these promotions indefinite. This will include existing customers who have fallen out of the contract period, and the statement format will be updated to remove the 12 month contract references.

Cheers,

 - Nik
