I do have a standard landline but i call Hk alot as my father lives in Hk.It costs around $1 a minute to call him.Very expensive.My bill was like $130NZ last month just on calls

If you use SkypeOut it will cost you only 1.7c Euro (= 3c NZ) per minute to any Hong Kong Landline or Mobile.

That is true and yes your right at the top for the price as well.

I don't mind paying the extra 2 cent as I quite like Xnet but the costs of the telephone is just too much

As Mauricio mentioned on the previous page:

1) Buy a PAP2T for around $100 incl. GST
2) Plug in any standard telephone that you already have

Total cost around $100. Not so expensive really is it?

I'll think about it.I won't be NZ for long so maybe I'll just stick with Skype.I don't have $100 at the moment.NZ proves too expensive to live for me .I'll probably return back to HK after I finish university in another year.

I will think about it for a few days...

Sorry Ladies and Gents, this thread was suppossed to be just an annoucement on our decision to continue no monthly charges for VFX users with HSI,

Sorry if we can't help you Nijabear but if you can post your concerns in another thread that would be appreciated this one is getting off topic, and I'm sure if you can pay only .05c with us as apposed to $1.00 a minute that your paying now pretty sure the device pays for itself in a single month and in the course of the year that cost would be considerable, but I will let you do the math.

Announcements in forums draw both for and against discussions with forum members giving diverse views. I was reading this one with interest to see reasons to take up VFX . I was hoping to see some views on whether to stay with PSTN calling specials or if its time to move. Stopping any discussion is not a good move. cheers George

I'll jump in there :)

I'm in the US at the moment. I have our PAP2T with us, and a normal handset plugged into it. Call quality, even when the single-dsl-line-shared-amongst-too-many-people is overloaded. No lag, no jutter, just nice clear voice.

It's fantastic being about to call friends, parents etc - or vodafone to moan about something - without being stung for intenational calls. And getting call Id notifications via email, and voice mail via email.

It was just as good on telstra cable when we were in welli. Possibly better, but hey - it's 10/10 here, and 10/10 there, so....

Customer Service has been fantastic. I would have liked to pick the last four digits of our phone number, but it's not ended up being an issue :)

As for them charging - damn, thats going to more then double my bill :( Not that I'm complaining. It actualy costs me MORE to call Chicago (I'm in Wisconsin) from my cell than it does to call from the VFX phone.....

It's a pity I can't move my 021 to them while I'm overseas - vodafone will not park for more than 3 months, and charge $10/month for the privilege..... I guess being a customer for longer than it's been called vodafone counts for very little :(

If you have cable, I'd MORE than recommend them, as you can get just internet if you ask nice. If you have DSL, and need a second line, ditto. If you just need one line, and have DSL, then I'm not so sure, as you have to have a line regardless. Once we have neked DSL, it's all on :)

Would it be worth it for you to have a new zealand number in HK? eg pick up the phone, dial 09 WHATEVER and pay local rates?

or have you friends in NZ call you for, basicly, free (assuming they are in the same city)?

About all quality stuff I will come back to you later. Porting number today!

I am using the SPA 2102. It works really well, even behind another router. I have also loaded a second line to it. More on this later - another post.

The announcement is a step in the right direction to gain market share for voip calling. Hardware costs can be recovered over time as noted in posts above but the biggie to me is the cost of calls. It needs to be cheaper than the capped prices of $20 to $25 per month set in the PSTN arena. My landline calling is on average 30 to 35 minutes per day. This would cost a minimum at PSTN $20 cap or $45 with VFX. Give me a $20 cap and I will sign up tomorrow! cheers George

If someone were to call me on the VFX how would it work?Do they call my normal landline number?
