afe66: Tapering late fees would be a hassle for the company, they want you to pay all the outstanding amount and you agreed to late fees when you signed up.

Tapering late fees would make it easier for customers to pay late which isn't in companies interest surely.

A.

But tiered late fees will be a reflection on the actual costs. eg. If a staff member has to contact a customer because they haven't paid on time, and that uses, say $15 of staff resources (including costs the company face by not having that cash onhand eg interest). Then if the customer then still doesn't pay, then the cost goes up by another $10 for the staff member to contact that customer again. Chasing up late payers, and not having that income in the bank, is a cost to a company, but is very hard to actually quantify the cost. But a tiered rate is more reflective on the actual costs. I hate chasing up late payers and it does take up a lot of time, especially if they start disputing fees after it is late.

How come they can drop calls, have down time etc with no compensation to us yet the minute we do not pay, we get pinged?

It's a bit one sided.

It's not to the minute, I have already covered this and outages / planned work is covered under the terms and conditions

As much as I don't like Vodafone, I cant see any issue with the fee.

If you have a bill to pay, pay it. If you're having trouble meeting your obligations, contact them and talk to them about it.

To justify that a competitor is doing it is not justification for the charge. But I don't blame them for charging a late fee, but don't agree with companies when they say that they do it because some other company does it, and that their fee is less, so theirs should be more palatable. The fee should be about the cost of collection, not because other companies get away with doing it. Really what other companies may do, and what they charge is irrelevant when it comes to the true cost of collection of overdue accounts.

I wonder if Vodafone would agree to pay late fees to the customer if they are owed anything? Especially as high as that.

I have no problem with this.

It's high, but it's a flat fee. It's there for a reason, they're a company that needs to make money and have bills to pay.

I'm not sure if it was vodafone or telecom (now Spark). There was an issue with my credit card and they couldn't take the money out. They happily remove the fee for me.

I must admit that since shifting to emailed invoices, not having something sitting on my desk means that I got into the habit of awaiting their automated call  -- their computer tells me the amount, I jot it down, and press the button giving me five days to pay. Then I pay it.

However I notice that the last account had this overdue charge. My own fault, I know, but I did like their reminder system:)

I have signed up to emailed invoices in my profile but no email arrives to inform me a bill has arrived and for the second month in a row they have cocked up the billing figure. Vodafone is getting worse.
