i am an xnet customer, I already have a vfx line with them, when naked adsl is released, I want to tell telecom where they can stick their $40 phoneline, and port the number to WxC.

From what I understand:

1st vfx line is free
second is $11.25, or is it $7.95 a month?

The latter. We have had a second line on one of our accounts since the beginning of the year, and $7.95 (or more exactly $7.07 + GST) is what we have always been charged.

So If i am correct

porting a number means using your original landline number with telecom on the VFX correct?Its simply transfering your number to VFX?

Can't wait for Xnet fusion

FS/128kbps $55
FS/256kbps $60
2Mbps/512kbps $60

Otherwise, a user like me, using a FS/128kbps (20gb) River plan, am paying currently $41+$34+$20 = $95...

With the new "Xnet Fusion" at $70 + $20 for data, that's $90... It means I'm getting a saving of only $5, plus full speed upload? But then, I also lose 1 telephone line? Doesn't make it that attractive then.....

Yes exactly. I did this around 9 months ago now and it has worked flawlessly ever since. My old Telecom number (as listed in the White Pages) became the first VFX number for our business.

You don't LOSE 1 telephone line...

- The physical line is still there carrying your ADSL
- The Voice service on the line (previously carried by POTS) gets replaced by VFX

For all intents and purposes, you still have the same services: ADSL and a phone service. Except the phone service is now digital instead of analogue and comes with all sorts of extra goodies like Caller ID, Free Voice Mail, etc, etc...

Well, each to their own I suppose. For me, the added functionality of VFX compared to a standard phone line as well as the cheaper calling rates make it well worthwhile

But then I have a wife who talks on the phone a lot and she would also miss the lack of Caller ID if we went back to a POTS line (our local exchange doesn't support it). Not to mention Voice Mail to e-mail and all the other cool features...

Full Speed Upload (as offered by Xnet Fusion) is also very nice to have when sending large file attachments.

Correct. you also need an ATA to plug your telephone into, and your telephone will depend on you have broadband service and power. Without either, no telephone.

Since the phone is barely ever used (except for local calls) I don't think we'd even save on tolls (How much would 1.5 hours nationally be?), and all the add-ons probably won't ever be used.

i just did a quick work out....

adsl: $69.95
phone1: $0.00
phone2: $7.95
TOTAL: $77.90

Phone: $48.53
Internet: 49.95
Total: $98.48

saves me $20 a month..... :D

On one of Telecom's better plans like Anytime, it's 18c per minute for National Tolls.

This equates to $16.20 for 1.5 Hours. The same amount of time on a VFX line would cost just $4.50.

So now you are looking at a saving of $11.70 + your $8 = $19.70 total. Worth having I would have thought?

An alternative if people wish to use VFX but the savings don't justify giving up their POTS line is to set their VFX line to divert on busy or when offline to their pots line. That way, you have a back up and you have a second line (which if its an anytime line, can offer some good capped calling rates).
