NonprayingMantis:
johnr: @PeterQ looks like you requested VDSL and no VDSL ports free so you are a VDSL port waiter so you might want to request ADSL in the mean time

The VDSL modem HG659 does support ADSL and it's quite easy yo change the settings

Why should he have to request it?
If you request vdsl and get a port waiter, I can't think of any circumstance where you wouldn't want ADSL in the meantime. Some broadband is better than no broadband.
IMO A good ISP would immediately offer ADSL (or, even better, just straight up provision it), and not rely on the customer understanding the nuances of port waiter status.

and on that, why was he not informed on day dot that it was a port waiter, and given other options?

but the person has no relationship with chorus, they have a relationship with the ISP, so if something is unavailable then shouldn't the ISP tell the customer that? no wait for the customer to have to follow up when something doesnt happen

now they may have to wait another 10 working days to get ADSL connected as its a new order

I have a feeling the port waiter status information is not immediately available (ie, at the time of placing an order), but becomes available later.

May I suggest the following?

Did you have a VDSL connection at your old address? If it was ADSL they could've moved your broadband and phone to your address in one single order then convert your existing services to VDSL. Even if its a VDSL waiter at least you still have ADSL.

If you move the phone line then run a Broadband New connection at the address he may end up being a adsl port waiter.

Chorus hasn't implemented VDSL move order requests so it gets annoying as everyone are ran as a new connection for that address.
