yes true we dont know the full story ...and i have emailed the manager of why they have , as the help line keep saying they havent ,they give a good enough resson of why they blocked it i be happy .....regardlless of its file sharing format ,if they block that mayb later on they start on torrents or sumthing else ...the point is they shouldnt have blocked it etc ...i suppose we will find out soon enough thou

Perhaps it would be more helpful if the full pings/tracert's were posted so we all know what domains are being talked at. For instance if I use name resolution against the ip address 210.48.72.60 I find oneeyed.co.nz (somewhere in Canterbury..?) but I can't ping it.

I get exactly the same ping result (and a matching ip address) for www.silverserver.co.nz. I have an xNet Fusion connection and this address is not available to me via my web browser.

However, running a tracert and ping on silverserver.co.nz (no "www") yields a very different ip address, no name and a very interesting route.

On the surface, the route makes it look kind of dodgy but I tried it anyway. the website simply read...

yes only the www.sliverserver.co.nz is blocked as sliverserver.co.nz is a defernt site

Perhaps everyone affected should affected should log a case with WorldxChange customer services. Given that the www and nonhost records point to different locations, it could be a routing issue rather a blocking policy.

As for Brads keyboard whacking... remember, you have to sell that keyboard. It might be hard if there is blood and brain matter on the keys!

Since when do web services host file sharing services? I thought they carried stories, ideas, ugly photos of girlfriends and stupid wacked out conspiracy theorys, not file sharing systems. From what the owner says, they do run DC+ on the server as well, which is by default on port 1412, not port 80.

I didn't mean to stir up a hornets nest of comments heh, but it seems pretty clear that they are dropping connections to this server at the outer edges of their network, to ALL ports, not just the file sharing ports. Perhaps their firewall doesn't support
port blocking, not in the budget, middle management interference and all that totally understandable, I had a dick smiths router like that once. Bad purchase. :-)

Perhaps it's just me, but I like to have unfiltered access to the net. I'm sure it's all very innocent, someone put a bad route in all their routers, and the helpdesk is too busy to fix it.

ok, I know I said lots of nice things about XNet in my first post, but ISP censorship for any reason totally rubs me up the wrong way... If XNet turn out to be actively blocking this site for any reason other than kiddie porn, etc, then I am sorry I posted in this forum.

Your right, XNET are usually pretty good, honest and upfront.

I've just been wondering how long it will be until we get the problems other ISP's and customers are facing worldwide with ISP's blocking traffic, web sites, ISP's getting rating classifications, Pakistan blocking YouTube for 'blasphemous' content,
China filtering the whole internet with the great firewall.

It seems we are getting less open, less free, not more.

Now, apologies for dragging this off topic. No more from me, I'll go hide in my hole :)

If this is because unlimited national customers on their old plans are using a lot of bandwidth with the p2p DC hub then they should make these people move to new plans and not block the site for everyone.

note: I am not in any way supporting copyright infringement when i say this.

Admitidly, DC is known as a file sharing service. People in my hub are not there for that purpose though. As I said before, it is a small community for remembering the old days when it was popular. It is open to anyone with an NZ IP, not a private "community" as some people have messaged me about. In no way is file sharing promoted or encouraged there.
I was told that xnet didn't contact me about it as my registrant contact information was incorrect. This isn't strictly true, the technical contact email address was valid.

I personally can't think of a reason why xnet would block access to it when the service is not on their network. Surely a complaint should have landed on my service provider instead. If it came down to it, with a bit of source code modification, I'm sure I could restrict the sharing functions. My concern is really with their ability to choose for their customers what they can and can't get access to. Also, in my opinion, they should have had at least had some records so that their helpdesk can tell their customers why they can't access that particular IP. It seems to me as if they'd like to cover it up.

Again, about the different IPs. Because xnet customers couldn't access the NZ server, I moved the domain and a lot of the subdomains to an offshore server. The IP in question is 210.48.72.60 which is pointed at by www.silverserver.co.nz if you feel the need to use a subdomain rather than the IP. silverserver.co.nz will point to an internationally hosted server.

To my knowledge .. yes they are the only ones. I run a number of other things on this server and the only ones that have complained about it are xnet users.
