xlinknz: Does this mean I can finally port from VF on-account to VF pre paid ?

Not yet. This is only for customers coming from Telecom NZ to Vodafone NZ. Vodafone on-accont users wanting to port to Vodafone prepay have to wait another month.

I was hoping for a switch from prepay to on account, but according to vodafone:
Question

Can I now move my number from Vodafone Prepay to Vodafone On Account?

 Answer

This option is currently unavailable, however we are working to make this service available soon.

Disappointing, like the integration of ihug and vodafone. Cobbling together the bare minimum, rather than adding value.

Hi Phil,

Just realised I have my dates wrong so I'll double check on the timing and let you know when you can port between OA and PP.

Cheers

Paul

Thanks, the I had high hopes for the big switch and hopefull they will still work out.
Currently I have a prepay mobile and an Ihug account. In addition my partner has a prepay as well as the 2 kids. I was hoping for a single account for it all and to set up the family service to save costs on the mobiles.

If all that worked out, I was even willing to switch my main phone services from Telecom over to Vodafone to consolidate it all. Currently though, there are too many holes so I'll keep waiting

I just phoned First Mobile (as they suggested), and they said they had an email from the IT team that said they would be working on prepay inward porting tonight, and would hopefully have it all working by 10am tomorrow morning.

It's likely to be longer than any of us likes before we get to the point where all the services are as fully integrated as you describe. It's definitely where we're going but we're still in the final stages of unpicking Ihug from its former owner's systems in Perth so full integration into the Vodafone system is likely to be a wee way off yet.

Family's definitely the right answer for you if you're all on Vodafone but yes, one of you does have to be On Account for that to happen.

Cheers

Paul

I notice when buying a prepaid connection of the VFNZ online shop there is no option to select the old telecom number you would like.

Could someone from vodafone (Paul) please confirm that if i buy a connection of the net to take advantage of the 6months free bestmate that i will be able to go into a store and get my old number put onto that sim card?

Right, I've got to the bottom of it now. Strictly speaking what you're after isn't porting at all (that involves moving the number from one carrier to another). Number porting IN to Vodafone PrePay is live now, and has been for the past three days (not withstanding Tony's issue with porting - Mauricio seems to have managed OK).

What you're after is the ability to move from OA to PP or vice versa - that functionality goes live in the next few weeks.

Cheers

Paul

I'm not doubting you, Tony. What I'm saying is that my information is that there was no problem with porting numbers today - and that the capability has been working since the upgrade went live over the weekend...

Of course if you ring Vodafone and say "when can I port my number in to PrePay" you'd be told April 1, that was the date we were working to. However, my advice is that the system has been fully functioning since the weekend (not sure what day) and when I asked today about it nobody knew anything about a system outage or a problem that meant Vodafone couldn't port.

That's not to say there wasn't some problem in the comms between First Mobile and Vodafone... that's not to say there wasn't a problem at Vodafone itself, but none of the people I asked (and they should know) were aware of any such issue.

I'll follow up in the morning to see if anything's changed but that's my understanding: there was no problem today with Vodafone porting.

Cheers

Paul

In theory, you would say this works, however as we have seen in practise of a few Geekzoners trying to port from VF PP to TCNZ PP then finally to VF OA, VF force you back to prepaid. I would guess the same would happen here, but there is only one way to find out, unless someone from Vodafone chooses to tell us.

For the record (and I've just posted this over on Tony's blog as a follow up), Vodafone did have a problem with porting yesterday (April 1). In fact we had two unrelated issues that conspired to knock out porting for most of the day.

We had been running the system quite happily for several days before April 1 so it's quite vexing for all concerned.

The problems have been resolved as of morning on April 2 and we're now porting (both On Account and Prepay IN and OUT from Vodafone).

Cheers

Paul

Would it be possible to get an official notification when it is possible to switch between OA and prepay.
I would even be prepared to be a guinea pig and test out the switching, if needed.

Thanks
