Yeah I noticed that too! Interesting... It all seems a very haphazard launch to me, what with page elements disappearing/reappearing and all... Disappointing really!

Agreed!

Vodafone should have offered LLU to existing customers who could tolerate any problems with new products (which they should have already did with their trial customers, but just in a bigger range). Though I'm not sure how it would work out.

They should have also retained the Red pack pages - but edit the contents on them, as it now causes confusion (like someone applies for home phone, and finds that they're saving $1.00 per month - it does confuse - and most likely won't realise that they're under the Red network)

Also, as I've got an ihug supplied DSL-504T ADSL2+ capable router, would I be able to utilise ADSL2+ speeds on Red? I'm aware everyone's been saying that it's firmware doesn't do ADSL2+ speeds, but I'm going to ask what Vodafone would say.

I've just received the official press release for Vodafone Red Network:

Vodafone launches the Red Network
Vodafone is launching a new era in fixed line broadband in New Zealand with the introduction of the Red Network.

Vodafone has unbundled half of Auckland’s phone lines and by the end of October will have unbundled the whole city. For the first time, customers will be able chose which network they use for their broadband needs.

Vodafone is delighted to offer three new price plans (Easy, Ideal and Ultimate) that take advantage of the new network infrastructure and will offer customers more freedom and more choice than ever before.

Vodafone Chief Executive Russell Stanners says this is a fantastic result, ensuring Vodafone can offer superior value and quality service and coverage for all customers.

“By having true control of our network we can improve broadband speed and develop better calling and broadband plans, providing consumers with real choice,” he says.

Vodafone will unbundle a total 41 telephone exchanges in Auckland by October 2008, and then look further afield.

“Based on the market today we’d look at Hamilton, Tauranga, Palmerston North, Rotorua and Taupo and of course Wellington.”
From there, Stanners says Vodafone will look at Christchurch and Dunedin.

“Vodafone is a national operator in mobile and we’ll take that philosophy to the fixed line world as well. We’ve built a next-generation network that will serve both fixed line and mobile and we’re future proofing our Red Network to deliver to our customers’ needs in the years ahead. Vodafone is committed to delivering the future today.”

Hi,
I just put my address in the coverage map to see if i could get the new service and it told me

"Sorry - your area is within a Vodafone Red Zone however you can't get our new Red services"

What the hell is that all about....?

Go Figure...

Most likely your area is already scheduled for cabinetisation by telecom. Since red network only covers exchanges you're out of luck :-(

From their cust help thing "why be on the red network"

There will be loads of fantastic benefits to being on the Vodafone network:

Potential for better broadband speeds
Great bundle deals
Better data allowances
Better support

1 - No, its limited by line length, so your network wont help at all, and with the opposition to cabinets it will be worse.
2, no, its not great, it comes with a landline wheras xnet and slingshot are quite happy to sell without one
3, no, 20 gigs is not great - best I can do is double it, so 40 gigs. For someone that does 150+ a month sometimes, thats a joke.
4, Well, better then what? The egypt call center - thats possible I guess.

So all up, a huge disappointment from the second LLU packages launched. I will stick with wholesaled naked dsl thanks...

How fast are people getting synch speed?
Download speeds at peak and off peak etc etc etc?

Is there any option for static IP?

Hi,

I've been migrated onto the 'red network'. I'm about 1.6km from the exchange (attenuation of 21-22dB). I'm getting between 18 and 20Mb/s sync, actual speed up to 16-17Mb/s download (from places like mirror.ihug.co.nz). Upload 1Mb/s (effectively about 860kb/s).

I've noticed that many details that didn't matter for ADSL1 matter for ADSL2+, length of the cable inside the house (I used to use an extension cord, had to scrap it), quality of the splitter (replaced dlink one with dynalink and got 2M more sync speed), or even the length of the cable used by the normal phone influence the stability of the line.

I get pretty good international speed (even 5-6M to US). Domestic works like a breeze too.
Phone works without any issues. Generally - it's been quite good experience.

Vodafone have not got a naked DSL service under LLU. So point 2 is completely invalid, for now anyway.

... and "Potential for better broadband speeds" - where "potential" is the key word. Sure, someone could get equal or even worse speeds, but the "potential" is still there - and of course cabinetisation screws the LLU networks more.

And see what I said about that same "help" article from Wednesday.

I just checked the inside of my DLink router and it says that my "modulation" is ADSL_2plus - but my sync rates are very much normal ADSL, 5719/165 ... might this mean that I'm just really far from the exchange? I guess what I'm trying to ask is, is it possible to tell if you've been migrated or not?
